I picked a set of these rims up for really cheap (bottom picture). What are your opinions of them? I'm not sold that I like them. Bear in mind, these are photochopped onto my truck and the picture of them is bad lighting..They are chrome. Any opinions?

Good job with the photoediting to get them onto your truck. You may want to use some common tools in the photoediting programs that will change the colors of areas....so that you can make them look chrome.

In terms of the style, it depends upon the look you wnat for the truck. In my humble opinion, they are not quite for an "off road" look, which what I prefer. But, go with what YOU want!!!

Hey, actually you have another option. You can keep the first set of rims, and put some decent offroad tires on (bag the Goodyear Wranglers!!!), and put some street tires on the new rims. You will be good for all occasions.

What I want to know is how you photochopped them!

I just got Photoshop 7.0 and can't figure out how to do it! (I have no manual or anything.)

But, honestly, if they are indeed chrome, I think they'd look pretty good but I really like rwinch's suggestion. :D

Thanks Dave looks much better. Seeing them in Chrome kind of swayed me towards actually putting them on. Who knows. 1 week till I see them.

The reason I got them was my car is due soon for new tires (cupping and scalloping on the RT/S). It has factory 17's and the tire sizes were limited for 17's.I'm thinking 285 75 16's or 305 70 16's tires on them. I've narrowed it down to either the Nitto Terra Grapplers or BFG TA KO's.

Rwinch--Any pictures of your truck with the 285/70's? I'm interested in seeing how much wheel well is left and trying to judge if the 285/75's would fit. Also interested in seeing how much they raised the truck. Thanks.

Wow, I just realized that all those vacation pics of the family at the beach showed just my son and wife.........and NOT THE TRUCK. What was I thinking?

Anyways, I have nothing to upload right away, but the 285/70/17 were supposedly the largest you can put on without a lift. One side actually slightly scrapes the Ford molded mud guards I put on.

From the pictures from the link that keydo showed, the larger tires will NOT fit without a 2" lift (go the link and see the descriptions. The pictures show the truck with the 2" lift), but I can tell you that if you have mud guards on, they will not. If I am not mistaken, the /75/ is the width percentage of the tire radius, so your tires would be even wider, so you need to make sure that you do not have any issues when cranking your tires to one side or the other.

According to BFG, the tire is only slightly larger than the 265, but I wanted as much as I could get and be stock. It is about 1" larger in diameter (0.5" taller) amd 1" wider.

In terms of the Goodyear Wrnagler RT/S's, this issue has been around for a LONG time. There are hundreds of posts on this on several Ford forums. The general response is that it is caused by poor tire quality.

I have a '98 EB that came with the Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires. Actually, they sucked on several levels, but I had tons of problems with feathering, or is it cupping? Anyway, it simply destroyed the tires, and caused quite a lot of uncomfortable driving. This all happened in about 6k miles.

I went about correcting this issue methodically, and I am proud to say that it has been solved for 50K or so.

1) First I went in and had a complete alignment. Needed to have a camber kit installed, because i guess Ford didn't think it important to be able to change this (duh).

1a) Complete wheel balancing

2) Then, a few weeks later, I did it again, cuse the first one didn't help. This was at a local shop where I found they did great work!!

2a) Another complete wheel balancing

3) Brought it bake to the second shop again to make sure the alignment was still good. Reason being was the ride was better after the second alignment/balancing, but got worse.

THIS IS WHAT I NOTICED when I was under the truck watching them. There WERE NO WEIGHTS ON THE WHEELS. I knew they put them on, I saw them. I remember some loud bangs, but rocks will do that.

Solution: Tape weights..they hold. I found that the stock rims do not hold the rim weights. Simple wheel imbalance caused my troubles. Next came new shocks and new tires, and I have not had an issue since.

Thanks for the replies and the great info. My truck doesn't have mud flaps so those at least wont be an issue. I checked out the calculator and 305/70/16's are about the same size as 285/70 17's....so its good to know Rwinch has no trouble. For that reason I will be going with one of the 2 depending which rims I use. I'll decide that when I see them in person.

I ordered a new set of Rancho 5000's ($155 free shipping), and am putting them on and aligning the truck after I get the tires after Xmas. The worst part of this whole thing...is the RT/S still probably have at least 2/3 of their tread. On the good side, the alignment and balance etc..wont cost me.

I'm playing around with photochop again. Here are some of my other choices for rims. I think I can sell the ones pictured at the top for about what I have into them if I dont like them. What do you all think about these?

Can I put the 315/70/17 on my '03 EB. It looks like the pics are of a 4x4. I know that they are lifted already right?? What size do you think would fit on the EB 2x4 with out the lift. I am wondering becuase I have about 4 inches of clearance to get the ride into the garage and If I put tires and wheels on it,,, Well then it won't fit and the wife will be upset.

Can't have that now can we!!!!

Yes its a 4x4. 315/70/15's are 35's. If I am correct you would need at least a 4" suspension lift to fit them under a 4x4 expedition, without cutting. Not sure what it would take to get them on a 2x.

Rwinch--These are all Eagle Alloys.
