Roadtrip ideas to make a little use of 4x4?

1.28" of rain in vegas last week. Doesnt seem like much if you dont live in the desert but we only get 3-4" a year. Roads were mostly dry but where they weren't they were ******. The north end of Black Canyon Rd is wide, graded with sweeping turns. 35 mph desert highway until we came over a rise into a waller. I can honestly say that it didnt slow us down too much!
