Shift indicator on wrong letter.

Has anyone ever had this problem happen just overnight??

I get into the car this morning and the shift indicator on the dash shows the wrong gear. It is moved over to the next letter.

Park is now on reverse. it is really annoying. It all works fine and drives but drives me nuts.

Shift indicator is controled by an adjustable cable under the dash. Try adjusting it first. If it cannot be adjusted enough (like mine) I was able to get it to point to the correct gear by using a plastic cable tie to lasso the indicator cable, thereby taking up the slack in it. Has worked fine like this for the past 4-5 years. repair cost 10 cents!!

On my 99 F-150 the adjusting nut and bracket were broke. They are made out of plastic. I did the zip tie thing on it and it has worked fine since. So far I have not had the problem occur on my 03 Expy.
