A few weeks ago I noticed a slow leak in my tire and I took it to the tire place where they checked it out and discovered that the rim was cracked. I found a replacement rim for about as much as what it was going to cost to get that one repaired so I bought it and now I've got an extra rim. I'm considering going ahead and getting that Rim fixed and then putting it on my spare tire so I would have a spare tire with a stock rim. I'm wondering though if stock rim will fit up into the spare tire storage area? Does anyone know if this is doable? Thank you!

Easiest bet would be remove the spare that's there, crank up the cable with the OEM wheel and see if it clears. Nothing lost if it doesn't. The spare that's on my 2000 is pretty big, so depending on tire size, you might have enough room in there.

If you're running stock tires and rims, like it sounds like you are, then it should fit just fine. The factory spare is full size (at least on mine it is).

Dont know your year or model, but on my 2003 & 2014 its a full size tire and just empty space where it cranks up. So much spare space up there you could add an extra battery if you wanted.

My 07 has a full size spare 20"(275/55/20) and it fits. The only question I have is will the T on the end of the cable fit though the 20" rim hub bore.

That's funny. Maybe Ford has changed some things as they went thru the years of the 3 generation. My 2011 has 20 in on the truck but came with an 18 inch spare. I got my dealer to order the tires I wanted and when the (5) tires came in they had to send (1) back as they found out the Spare was the 18 inch size.

Don't know about anyone else but that has been my experience.

I’ve got a 35x11.50R18 full-size spare in my well under the truck. Definitely the max for it, but doesn’t hit anything. @gixer2000 definitely makes a valid point, the hole on my spare looks much bigger than the hub bore of my stock wheels.

A stock rim should fit. Check the keeper on the end of the cable when you get a chance. They've been known to fall off and liberate the spare on the freeway. Then when you need it, you ain't got it no more; just a stump of wire hanging down. .

Wow sounds dangerous. I dropped the spare on my 2014 because I wanted to clean things up in there and have it off while being Krowned. Besides I had never done it and I didnt want the first time to be on the side of the road when I had a flat. Had to top off the pressure in the spare. Steel rim was starting to rust so that got cleaned & painted a bit. I slathered grease all over the business end of the cable (T)... now I'm extra glad I did that. I plan to keep this Expy until it dies or I do, whichever is first. A true Lifetime warranty.

My spare was unusable(excessive rust), after years of been hung on the underside. I keep the replacement in the back, with no third row. Expeditions have full spares. I never heard of repairing a cracked rim. Its sounds sketchy. Most junk yards, give around $15 scrap, for an old one.

I would never ride on a repaired rim.
