Im wondering how a straight pipe would sound. My engine sounds almost like an electric hybrid or something! I wana remove my stock exhuast, but dont have the money for a new one that i want right now (flowmaster 40 probably). But if i remove the stock muffler right after the cats and just run straight pipe to the tip, does anybody know how this will sound or have done it? Just thinking about it :) Thanks

Here is a video of mine. I have the stock 4 cats on with a Y and dual 2 1/4 inch pipes with 3 1/2 inch tips that exit at 45s from each corner. It has a great idle, and really loud and throaty when you get on it, and as long as you are listening to some tunes while driving down the highway, you'll never hear it.

dr3w you're in cali you cant legally do it. but if your next smog test isn't for awhile you can try until its time for test then you have to put one on. but be careful the cops can ticket you for it. especially since it will be a lot louder than stock.

okay heres how cali laws work. some parts of cali dont have smog! like ramona and julian. so yeah! haha but most parts of cali do have smog. or is it that they dont have to have a smog on a dyno... who knows. either way smog laws is by city, but most by state. of just give the guy a $20 and youll be good. ahah

Same here! I think there would be more than a few very angry people if that were the case in Wyoming.

every other truck in NNY has straight pipes... my old 97 f150 did... but I like the mellower flowmasters.... guess because I am older and have a kid its nicer.... plus a little quieter when going by the PO-PO....lol

I cut my muffler off and dumped it. I like it but I really want to run it to the back or do side exit in front of the tires on both sides. Not sure it would work on the driver side though.

my true duals dump behind the pass rear tire almost looking stock.... but one day I am gonna change it to dump on each corner just outside of my trailer hitch....... on my old 97 f150 I had cut off the muffer and welded a 3" pipe that dumped right in front of the pass tire and had an angle cut... that was freaking loud and cool but dont want it that loud now a days,,,lol,.... never thought I would say that but I guess it happens when you have a kid...lol

sounds good.... I am thinking of removing my 40s next time my exhaust has to be redone... pipes only last 2-3 years with all the salt NY uses

Thinking about doing a true straight pipe. I suspect clogged cats. Not paying an arm and a **** to replace them. My mustang had cats removed plus a flow master 40 and sounded amazing. Hoping to get the 5.4 to sound similar.

I cut mine off after the cat on my 5.4 and it sounded MEAN. Window shaking, alarm setting off MEAN. If that gives you any inclination of how yours would sound, do it. **** a muffler.
