Yesterday was a pretty nice day here so I decided what the heck Ill open the sun roof. Bad Idea!! now it wont close it will inch forward maybe two inches before it shuts itself off. I think it may have pulled the shade back too far and popped it off track or something. Anyone ever had anything like this happen?

It happened to me in my 01 XLT about 4 yrs ago. Diriving through Sierra Nevada Mountains from Sacramento to Reno. Nice cruise on the Freeway. Decided to open the sun roof to get some nice air with the mountains as great sceneary, bad decision. When I tried to close the sun roof, it wouldnt close. so then I opened it up more and there it was, stuck between the roof and headliner. So had to finish my 2 hour road trip with the sunroof open ALL the way back. So, contacted the dealer, they wanted $1300 total job. $135 for part and the rest for labor. Yeal, trick that. I pulled down some of the overhead, disconnected the sun roof and just pulled in back to the closed position and put wedges to keep it up. What had happened was the tracks broke. I could have fixed my self, but at the time I was traveling, no time to do it.

Luckily for me my friend was able to fix it, the bolt in the center of the sun roof motor acted kind of like a manual override. We were able to get the motor loose and the roof closed thankfully. We also found that a connecting bolt had fallen out of the motor as well so that when the roof went back it didnt know when to stop so we put all that back together and it seems to be ok for the time being.
