Just curious, as i am in the market for an expy, and wondering what is in the drivetrain of there beasts.

what model is the tranny? i was thinking it might be 4r70w, but that is just an assumption

what is the transfer case? again, im assuming its a borg warner unit, but i would like to know which model

what does it have for axles? im talking about the older, solid rear axle models. again, this is just an assumption, but im guessing ford 9 inch rear axle, but i have no idea about the front. any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: more questions....

All 2003 Expeditions use the 4R70W. All 2004 Expeditions use the 4R75W. Prior to 2003 there was the E4OD/4R100, most commonly found behind 5.4 engines, and the 4R70W most commonly found behind the 4.6.

Front axle is an 8.8 regardless of engine.

Pre 2003-Rear axle is an 8.8 on 4.6 models, 9.75 on 5.4 models. Coil springs unless the Expy has the optional air spring package, then it's air bags. Ford never used the classic 9" on the Expy.

Front suspension springs: Torsion bars on 4x4, coil springs on 4x2
