The 4th Gen is too Expensive... or maybe not?

enough to make a large dent in GM's full size SUV sales.

2019 sales of Tahoe’s (101,000 tahoes and 20,000 yukons) were virtually the same as the last 4 years and up over 15,000 units over the first model year of this cycle (2015).

Yeah but...but they’re still putting in teeny weeny v6’s w direct injection and twin teeny weeny turbos. WTF!

Gimme a V8 then I’d consider the monstrous spend.

Don’t those teeny engines put out much more torque and HP than your 2000 5.4?

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see 8’s in these but the power the 6’s is pretty impressive...

Yes they do indeed however at the expense of cost, maintenance, complexity and longevity.

Different Duty Cycles. The 5.4 Triton was built for heavy duty case use since it was the base engine for the Super Duty line. Hence the deep skirt cast iron block, relatively detuned, big radiator, and steel pans and covers. The EcoBoost and even 5.0 aren’t built for 3/4 ton duty cycle like the 5.4 and current 6.2 V8. They produce more power but are not built for the same purpose and are more “light duty” throw away engines. It’s not just a Ford thing.
