Tire Chains

Folks,

I have a vacation planned for Steamboat Springs, and am in the process of purchasing tire chains for my '99 Expy EB.

Do I need chains for all tires, or just for the rear tires??

Also, are cables recommended or actuall chains??

I have recieved a ton of conflicting information on this from friends and family. I did check the owners manuall, and there is no guidance there.

have an 03 and I only use the chains in really bad condition. They go on the rear wheels and are actual chains. ( small chains )
