2003 XLT with big tow, 3.73. Stock, 160k miles
8.5x20' enclosed ~7500lbs. Equalizer hitch
So towing with this thing isn't too bad but even with O/D off I noticed sometimes 3rd wouldn't want to stay 'engage' while just humming along, but no problems with the tranny, just a little 'personality'.
In Feb I bought the Edge EVO HT2 and programmed in the 91 Octane Towing tune.
Whoa.
2-3mpg better around town and freeway. Holds gears better and idle and power delivery much smoother. While towing the 'personality' is eliminated, shift points are improved, it pulls hills better and cruises along with trailer at full weight very comfortably at 65mph. I even got 10mpg towing on my last trip which is a massive improvement.
Ok, so when I'm towing I have to pump premium... oh well but most folks were right. The tuner was the best $350 I've spent on this vehicle.
