We just purchased a 2015 navigator L so the 2008 navigator is being sold. It's been a constant battle of fixing things on the 2008 and my wife no longer trusts it to drive our family around and I honestly don't blame her. It seems like something breaks every week. One good thing is the engine and transmission are in excellent shape. The issues are just other random things.

The new navigator is a 2015 extended length with 34k miles and comes with the Lincoln certified pre-owned warranty(72 month/100k miles bumper to bumper). It was built in September of 2015 so we have a good 2.5 years/100k miles left on the certified warranty. We paid $35k for it and it's in like new condition.

The navigator comes with the high output 3.5 ecoboost that pushes 380hp/460tq. It runs on 87 octane but you won't get those numbers unless you run premium which I'm not going to do.

Comparing the old Nav to the new, the 6r80 feels like it was built for the 5.4l. It feels fine in the 3.5 but it's just so smooth with the 5.4. Acceleration is definitely up from the 5.4 but I never felt like the 5.4 was lacking power. A few things are nicer in the 2015+ but the overall quality (including the thx sound system) is about the same between the 2008 and 2015.

I didn't think of this before purchasing but is the high output 3.5 using stronger internals than the normal 3.5 or is it just pushing more power. From what I have found, it's just a software flash. Should this engine/trans last just as long even though it pushing more torque if properly cared for? I will run full synthetic oil and change every 5k regardless of what the built in oil monitor says. I don't tow.

Thank you!

Same Motor, all tuning. It can easily handle the power bump.

Sorry guys I meant it was sold in spetember so 2.5 years left. Best things is the guy bought it from the same dealer he traded it into and had it serviced there exclusively. Good stuff. I hope this thing lasts a long time. I will say I think one of the rear shocks is bad. It has the ccd suspension so I can change it from sport to normal and comfort. The back end seems pretty damn bouncy and on the highway when turning left and hitting a bump it jolts the steering wheel hard and tries to throw you into a ditch. It seems like its bad or the ccd back there is malfunctioning. Good thing it has a warranty. Besides that for a massive heavy truck it gets up and goes. And doesn't require premium fuel.

I can tell you from experience, it is worth it to run 93. I did a 4 tank experiment with the Wife’s Expy. Ran 87 with a HyperTech 87 Tune loaded for 2 Tanks, regular driving. Then Ran 93 with a 93 Tune loaded for 2 tanks. I saw a 2.2 MPG increase on average. That is about dead even on cost per mile, but driving it is SO Much more fun, and it just runs better. It was actually colder and we used Remote Start more the 2 weeks we were running 93, so the gains might be better.

It is worth it, at least in my opinion.

Been another thread going about this. 2.2 is more like what most people see. Someone was stating over 30% increase with premium and we were only talking 91 I think.
No more 93 around here, and no pure gas.
Used to have a lot of 93 maybe 10 yeas ago and Sunoco had 94. Now it is all 10% (yeah right) and 87,89,91.

Ours is 93 in VA, but 10%. I get what you are saying. My point is the EB Motors like the increased Octane, and they reward you with more power, and better average MPG.

Also, the difference between the expedition limited and the navigator is pretty big on the interior. The limited had a ton of plastic and really didn't feel like it should cost $55+ new. It was also kind of loud and more harsh and it also had the ccd suspension and I had it in comfort mode.
For the same price used, the navigator is definitely the better option. I do wish the Nerf bars were stationary but I guess that would detract from the look so lincoln didn't go that route. You also get the more powerful 3.5 Ecoboost.

We have 93 around me so I'll definitely test it out. I had a focus st for 4 years and 93 made a huge difference in power but not much in gas mileage. I guess with a much heavier vehicle it could affect mileage more. Thanks for the input!

More power from Factory is not important to me. Since they are all the same Motor, just with different factory tunes, when you go after market tuning they all end up at the same level.

The CCD is also not as good for my towing needs. I have the load leveling rear. I liked the CCD platinum I drove though.

Like our Limited. Bought it new. Paid less than 55. Ours is an EL 4x4 with all the options, except 22’s and CCD.

Sorry my post probably sounded dkheadish. I didn't mean it that way. Just that I felt they should have had more soft touch and less plastic in the limited expedition. I guess they have the Platinum and King ranch that are other upgrades so they have to save some stuff for those. Don't get me wrong, any expedition or navigator is nicer than any vehicle I have ever owned so they are all an upgrade.

One more thing. The thx sound system in the 2008 navigator is miles ahead of the thx system in the 2015. It has almost double the power and much much stronger bass. Seems like they cheaped out somewhere on the newer Navi or mine isn't working properly.

All good! Agree on the Plastics. I would have never paid the retail price for ours!

Yeah, we have the Sony System in our Limited with Sync 3. Leaves a bit to be desired. Might eventually swap out for better speakers.

Would I have a Sony in my '14 EL Limited? I went from an '04 Tahoe to the EL and the Bose in the Tahoe was spectacular. The EL is OK, but I miss the Bose. I would think it would take more than a speaker upgrade, but I'm no expert. I'm not into the big boxes of noise within the cargo space, but is there an option for better sound?
Thanks...

The Bose system in the GMs has went way downhill over the years, the older systems were better imo

The earlier systems were designed by Bose and their Engineers tunes the system to the particular vehicle model they were in. The later systems were not, and in most cases were only small improvements over the base.

You could start with speakers, that's the logical starting point. Speakers are the biggest sound difference in car or home entertainment systems. If you want big improvements, don't cheap out though. I'd get ahold of Crutchfield, they have been my go to over the years, when I needed a fitment question answered, or wanted to know if they'd done an upgrade, and how'd it sound. As I've stated in other posts, your dealing with a fairly low powered amplifier from Lincoln. My guess would be no more than 15-20 watts per channel of listenable wattage .Your front door and pillar tweeter speakers are going to be your biggest difference on change out. I don't know your budget, but their are some nice JL audio, or Focal speakers around the $500.00 to $700.00 range that should ***** the sound up to the next level. If your head unit in dash has some sort of filter, or is just a bad sounding booger, you may have to also switch that out for one of the better Pioneer or Alpine units. Again, as you climb the ladder on price, the amplifier, and preamp sections in the head units make a Sonic difference that most humans with good hearing will notice.

I don't think you can swap out the Ford sync 2 headunits since they are heavily tied to the workings of the car. I'll look into the speakers. I'm going to take it to the dealer for the suspension issue and also get them to look into the front doors since they both rattle like crazy when the music is turned up a bit.

Our 2008 navigator is so powerful you can only get the volume to halfway before your ears can't take anymore and nothing rattles. This system in the newer nav just feels wayyyyy underpowered. I'm sure a stronger amp would help even the stock speakers.

Does your 2008 have the THX sound? That was a great system, hard to beat it. The Sony systems have clear sound but generally feel underpowered compared to the Audiophile and THX systems.
