Usually I'd say tire balance, but it seems you already took care of that. Not that a second opinion wouldn't hurt. We had to get the new tires on my wife's car rebalanced because she had a vibration at 70+mph.

Maybe a worn out shock or strut? Where do you feel it?

I experienced this, this morning oddly enough. And figured I needed to have my new wheels and tires rebalanced.....however on the way home it was fine. So we'll see what happens tomorrow.

I have 75,000 miles on my 07 EL and have had this problem since it was new. Been to the dealer and two different tire shops with three sets of rims and four sets of tires. The severity has varied over the years but never gone completely away. The steering wheel vibration is horrendous.

I had a very bad vibration when we first purchased our used '08. I took it to my dealership and he said it could be two things or both. The wheels threw a weight and needed to be re-balanced and my rims were in rough shape due to the previous owner really liking curbs and that could be throwing everything off.

I have noticed that if I put the really bad wheel up front (the bent one) the vibration gets much worse than with any combination of the other three. So I try to keep that one in the back, but getting all the tires re-balanced worked wonders.

What size rims and tires are you running? I have a shake in my steering wheel about 70+mph. But it also depends on the road I'm on. The tires and rims have been rebalanced twice now. I've been told it's just because of the lack of sidewall and rim size. I really wish I could get them to my buddy that does big rig tires for a living.

Its not the size of rim and wall size...if that's the case u would feel it doing 30-40-50...yes u will feel the road but when properly balance u wont...I had 24's...now 26's and I dont have thay prob...shops that arent used to dealing with large rims stack the weights in one spot like factory tires and u cant do that...that will give u the wobble every time...happened to me and when its spaced around the rim there is no wobble and I've done 90 mph on 305/30/26...WITH NO WOBBLE...go to a rim shop and have them do it...I have no probs what so ever...feeling the road is feeling the little bumps...grooves that pull your car...not a wobble that equates to the steering wheel going back and forth...

Make sure the spread the weights across the rims...if they continue to stack them in the same spot this will happen. ..happened to me and I saw they stacked them so I went back and had them do it over again spreading the weights...no more wobble...so I now tell them to do this

I would bet almost anything that if you replaced the swaybar bushings AND links your problem will go away. I have an 07 EB EL and had the same exact problem changed both the front and rear swaybar bushings and links and the problem is gone. my steering wheel does not vibrate at all.... just an idea...

I think it is combinatorial, most-likely stemming from the weights. The self-stick adhesive ones tend to come off over time and if you have directional tires, not being able to rotate also keeps things static.

Thanks for the tip! I still have about 6 months left on my extended warranty, is this something that the dealer may cover? If not, any idea what that procedure will run me?

I've read about earlier expeditions having that specific problem of vibration in the steering wheel and there's a TSB for it even and the fix is to adjust the engine mounts.

This isn't an issue with just Expeditions. Both my '85 camaros did the same thing. Around 70MPH is the magic number that seems to show vibrations if a vehicle is going to have any. I had gone through multiple tires and even different rims so I figured it had to be driveline associated. I changed the driveshaft and still no change. My '86 Camaro never had the issue. I also noticed newer cars have vibration dampers on some of the driveline components like the torque arm from the rear differential and even the transmission and I can imagine it's for this reason. Maybe you have a bad U-joint or more likely the driveline angle is offset enough to cause it.

They make adhesive weights now...? That might explain why I am missing one. Now I am kind of ticked.

I am getting the highway vibes too. At first I thought it was the bearings, but upon inspection, they said all 4 ball joints were shot.

Replacement helped a bit but its still there. I'll do more investigating this weekend when I have time and its light outside.

The sway bar links and bushings sound like something worth investigating.
