I wanted to reply here since it received some notice, but no answers
In general the transmission seems to require the HX in order to come to temperature (outside of a place like FL, TX, AZ, Dubai, etc)
The transmission only really produces heat when the torque convertor is locked up (which only happens under load)
Because of this, just cruising around doesn't really do anything.
Without the heat you run the risk of blowing a seal from the viscosity of the oil being too thick
Because of this, I have decided to retain the factory HX, but I will be changing the following:
- Delete coolant thermostat and loop the engine coolant directly to the HX
- 180*F Thermostat
- Larger Radiator
- Transmission Oil Cooler + in-line thermostat that won't open until 180*F (Derale 25792)
The attached is a retarded picture of what I am envisioning
I will document the process when I dig into it.
Following this video as guidance, and upping the ante with additional cooling mods
In Todays video we build something that has been on my mind for a long time. I have always wanted to build a transmission cooler setup that is the best of al...
