Not really a mechanic but can anyone confirm my belief that I have a leaking water pump from this picture? Also, are there any TSBs out there for these to be replaced? 2016 Expedition 06CC0691-D847-4E55-92D4-CE129DC01F74.png

Sure looks like it is leaking.

Mine was replaced at 75,*** miles. It only leaked when the engine was running, and the leak was small (about a one-inch drop in coolant in the reservoir over one week).

‘I’m not aware of any TSB - but there was an updated pump and pulley kit according to the service advisor at the dealership when I had it replaced.

Yeah it’s only been leaking 2 mornings now after startup for about 3 minutes. Enough to make a small puddle each time. I’m thinking it’s the seal bc after the truck warms up, leak stops completely. Thank you for the reply!

The water pump has a weep hole.
When your water pump seal starts to go bad it lets coolant out the weep hole as a warning.

Additional update. Fords aftermarket warranty solutions will not cover any tube assembly, fitting, connector, etc , metal or plastic unless associated with AC or power steering. So $1022 later I’ll be getting a new water pump (covered, $100 deductible) new Ford lime green coolant flush (orange has been found to wear away components prematurely), and several new coolant hoses on the driver side turbo. $720 for labor… stealership at it again…

Maybe someone forgot about the head issue causing head gaskets blowing in the 5.4 2v? I owned two of them, 380K combined mileage...I would never brag about that engine. It wasn't bad if you were gentle b/c of it's weak lower end insert bearings and head leaks on the rear, drivers side of the engine, but it was nothing special and I build engines for a hobby. I've put 133K on my 3.5 and nothing has broken, nothing. I never did that with either 5.4.....jus sayin

I'd say the 5.4 and 4.6 are both pretty reliable, if not turds compared to the modern engines. I've gotten 150,000 out of a 4.6 2v and 3v, 5.4 2v and 3v, and a 5.0. We've got 14 3.5 Ecoboosts at work with the highest mileage one currently at 110,000 with only a knock sensor being replaced. My Ecoboost's are currently at ~75,000 and ~26,000 miles without issue so far. Any engine that hits 150,000 miles without having to be opened up is good in my eyes. I try not to keep them longer than that, but my 07 Explorer is coming up on 160,000 miles and still going.

Just picked her up from stealership. They helped me out with a discount and I was out the door for $915. That includes a $300 coolant flush for free thanks to my water pump. Glad to have her back at home finally
