I have a 2003 5.4L 4X4 used to tow a 5000lb plus travel trailer. I had posted an earlier message and what I came away with is that using a Hypertech approach would not do much because the additional HP is generated at higher RPMs. Also, if you look at a HP graph, the before and after lines do not differ by much.

Putting a catback exhaust would help. Headers appear not to exist for a 2003 5.4L. Sometimes someone selling Gibson shows headers for a 2003 but they don't really exist. So, I am searching for reasonable ways to soup up the buggy.

I ran across some parts suggestions from a truck specialist (onestoptruckstop.com) for an Airmax Air intake system - about $250.00
Helix Power Tower (Throttle body spacer) - about $100.00
Chip $200-$400 (discussed earlier)

They tout a Power Package for $500 that has all three parts above at a price of $500 and it gets you 100HP for some earlier model expeditions.

Does anyone have any experience with the specialized air intake systems and the throttle body spacers? Do they do anything? Thanks in advance.

The easiest way to 100 horsepower is boost. Superchargers work really well on these trucks. The Kenne Bell or Whipple are best for towing because they make instant boost. Allen Engine Development also makes a nice kit using a eaton supercharger like the ford lightning. A centrifugal supercharger is usually cheaper and builds boost progressively with RPMs. Unfortunately because of the unique returnless fuel system on the 03 trucks only a couple of mfrs offer kits for the 03....

I just dyno'ed my 05 Expy today and it was 240hp/290tq stock and after the JLT CAI and SCT tune it went to 270hp/355 tq with a peak tq reading of 390 tq at 2100 rpm's. This was a 2nd gear dyno run and on 93 octane. His webiste is www.jlttruecoldair.com or call him 757-335-1940.

I do not recognize the term SCT tune. I looked on the website you mentioned and they are engineering a air intake kit for 2003 Expeditions, but they are not in production yet. They claim 8-12 rear wheel HP increase after testing, plus 1.5 MPG increase. Rear wheel torque goes up 10-14, I suspect, foot pounds.
