WeatherTech Mud Flaps On

Never been a fan of mud flaps. On previous 4x4's, OEM flaps got ripped off on the trail or went into the garbage.

Figured these don't look too bad and will help keep rocks/pebbles from getting kicked up onto the travel trailer. They fit well and were easy to install.

Just did the same over the weekend. They really are pretty nice for what they are. Since I don't plan using my vehicle for much more then pavement and gravel/dirt roads I think they will work well. At least I hope so.... As I was breaking down the box I noticed the "installs in minutes" on the box and had to chuckle. Like most things I do, they took me "many" minutes to install.

It was one of the first things I ever put on. The bumper on these is shaped like a giant dirt/snow catcher. it also helps keep snow/mud off of the running boards which tend to be pretty error prone in bad conditions.

As a side note, I found that they were a bit flimsy, so I used some extra fender pins and attached the fender lining to them as well. You can see the mud flaps in the attached image and the extra fender push pins I drilled and put in, just to suck the fender liner and the mud flap together.

Anyone figure or a way to back out the original screw center plastic clips to install the mud flaps? They don't like to back out when unscrewed. Or did you have to drill them out?

I turned them center without putting pressure and got them to come out slightly. Then, I was able to pull the center out. The outer put popped off easily after that. A panel puller can help.

Usually I use a panel popper to slightly pull on the tabs while unscrewing it. Seems to squeeze the screw a little making it turn. Ones that would come out, I just hope out with metal panel popper, most of the time I can still reuse them.

So we live in Colorado and had a good three feet of snow recently. My wife was backing after I tried to shovel our drift and one of these popped off and snapped the plastic piece it mounted to clean off. Anyone else have this issue or know how easy it is to replace that back piece. Worried I might need to replace the bumper. Also looking for more flexible flaps now - the Husky mud flaps I found are really thick and basically rigid....

I haven't had that issue yet with mine. Can you post a pic so we can see the aftermath? And yet we are sister to get more snow this week, blah.

Hmm cold temps and getting hung up and breaking or cracking the plastic fender/bumper is crappy..


I know body shops can weld the ABS bumpers now!!! Saved me $1000’s on my Sequoia. Worth a shot calling around.

I loved my WTs till I added my 34.3 inchers. Had to pull the front ones (for sale if you pm me we) b/c the rubbing would have been too much. So I custom cut/attached some universal fits on the front...

YMMV, but the thickness of the rear WTs pushing INTO the rear wheel well helps to close the unusual rear wheel gap caused by lifting the Expy as the tire gets pushed a bit forward...

I had to trim my front ones because the bigger tires rubbed the inner most part of the flap.

I saw that Lou and considered it but felt more comfortable going with the ultra thin ones. May have to punch another hole though to keep it from flapping at highway speeds as double sided tape is not working. At all lol.

Add WT to my 3rd Gen, color match to truck. I like them, no issues

Installed black WT a couple of years ago. Stock tires. Mild off-roading, backed through some 3 foot wet/heavy snow drifts, no problems. Easy install. They do the job for me.

@JimW Wondering if you have any pictures of how you mounted these universal ones up? Dig the look of them and your rig. Did you have to do any trimming on the front of the running boards?
