Its down to between a Suburban and a v8 Expy, what was the last year of the triton? Not interested in a turbo v6 for my next truck.

Thanks.

Why do people hate on the Ecoboost? This truck is exceptionally powerful, has gobs of torque, and gets decent mileage...it can be tuned up relatively easy for even more power. Towing capacity is fantastic...I understand wanting a v8, but I’m really impressed with my Ecoboost.

Do yourself a favor and don’t feed the troll. Machete came on here to do one thing and that was make everyone think he was interested in an Eco then he proceeded to dog on them and argue with everyone that praised them.

As someone who's been driving a 5.4 triton for the last 3 year's I'd rather an ecoboost. The ecoboost makes more power and doesn't have anywhere near the issues the ford modular motors do.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve been completely honest on the forum that I’m coming from a long line of toyota ownership my most recent truck being a 100 Series Land Cruiser and they are quality built trucks with an amazing reputation. So for me to be impressed with my EL Limited is saying a lot. I drive well over 30,000 miles a year mostly on the Hwy and this truck is really just a dream to drive for hours on end. Drove to Lake Tahoe from Reno the other day and had it in tow/haul mode and it just did that awesome engine braking thing down the mountains. I love it. Such a pleasant beast to drive all day. 1701de1f37a67ac123bf93a31502ae17.jpg443e2df10e784cd27e2a698b97d25a8e.jpg

Hey Muddy, do you want to appreciate your nice new truck even more?

Drive a rental for two weeks <LOL>

Yes, this is my THIRD Expedition('99, '03, '17) and both of the others had the 5.4. I had over 228,000 on the first, 177,000 on the 2nd and hope to get 300K out of this one!

I LOVE MY TWIN TURBO 3.6 V6!!

Had a 1987 large Bronco, '97, 2000, 2004 and a 2013 Expedition, zero engine problems and I believe they all had the 5.4 except for the 87. All were four wheel drive vehicles because we lived in the Rockies at 9000 feet for most of those years. The only significant problem I recall on finding of them was a transmission replacement under warranty on the 2000. They all except the 2013 had over a hundred fifty thousand miles with two of them reaching 200,000 miles before we sold them.

I love my 5.4 to each his own. I like the ecoboost as well it’s very fun. I wish my expy had the 3.5 today when i found my self racing a Nissan Pathfinder on the highway it would have edged him out. Some think i hate it which is totally untrue, id drive an SUV with one. The eco is fast, but im also totally happy with the 5.4 they are good engines.

We have a 2018 Pathfinder and it's a really great car. Quick and very good on fuel. We'll probably look at the Armada in a couple of years when it's time to replace the Expedition.

I saw someone above post about changing the oil often. Are we saying not to wait until the Oil change prompt comes on? That's what I've done on my 2016 EL Limited EB. What do they mean oil going into the pan?

I was referring to the 5.4 there with the filter. The 5.4 needs immediate oil flow on startup and good Pressure because the VCT system is oil pressure driven. Also not good for the tensioners to start dry (on both the V6 and V8). Cheap filters are found to often let oil drip back down. I’d recommend good or OEM filters for the 3.5 as well no motor should start dry, NO FRAM.

We looked at the 2017 Armada when considering the Expedition. The thing we didn't like about it was how the third row didn't lie completely flat when folded down. It seemed a little smaller too and I think it was pricier. Maybe that's change for 2018.

Fortunately the seats on the current model do fold flat, though there is still less cargo room. 2018 Expedition Platinum Max starts at 75k, 2018 Armada Platinum Reserve starts at 62k. Cars.com said it's "priced to undercut the Expedition". I don't know if it's an apples to apples comparison when it comes to options, but they are the top models for each vehicle. Heck, the Infiniti QX80 Signature Edition starts at less that 75k.

Maybe I'm the only one that thinks 75k for a Ford is too much...Still just browsing though, we've got plenty of life left in our 14 Expedition, and we really like it.

I agree ford is pricing them too high. They are out of their normal waters. No base should be $53,000

@mdntblu, I'm not using the oil change prompt. I changed oil at 1000 miles to full synthetic and will change it at 6000 when I hit it in another month or so, and then I plan to change it every 5000 miles. It is cheap insurance as far as I'm concerned.
