Window Goop?

Hello All, first post here...
Last night my Fr passenger popped off and cocked at an angle. I pulled it straight (probably dumb in retrospect) and it slid to the bottom.
This morning I wrestled it back onto the window holder clips, but it is not gripping correctly. There is some 'black goop' that looks a like a cross between RTV and tar that I figure glues the window to the clip. Does anyone know what it's called, and where I might get some? Alternatively, another way to repair the assembly so my window doesn't pop-off when I lower it? Thanks!

I'm no expert but it sounds like a bad/broken window regulator to me. I had one go on my Town Car recently. I believe the part was about $70, but the priced doubled because of the labor charges. They do sell them on ebay if your mechanically inclined.

I just replaced my drivers side regulator because the top bracket that slides came off.

If the regulator is still all in tack, and just the window came out of the brackets i would first remove the window clips, only held on by 1 nut (one on each) 12mm i believe and clean out the remaining glue/tar concoction) then reinstall and use some window/glass epoxy they sell at any auto parts store, i bought the 60 sec epoxy and have not had a problem

Thanks creativemain, that's the information I needed. My regulator and mechanism seems fine. Hopefully I can get to it this weekend and update with the results.
