I bought my 2014 13 months ago with 93k miles on it. Huge upgrade over my 2000. The 6r80 transmission is really nice compared to the 4r100. Mountain driving now involves much less severe gear hunting. The build quality of my 2014 is better and results in a significantly smoother and quieter ride.
change the oil immediately to 5w30. Change it every 5k max.
I’m not scared of the cam phasers in my 3v anymore than I was scared of shooting a plug out of my 2v. Some people run the original phasers/tensioners for 200k+ miles.
I liked the exterior of my 2000 more than my 2014. And my 2000 was paid for. That’s the only 2 things it had going for it.
I did, with double the miles. I went from a 2000 with 203k to an 08 Navigator with 203k. One owner all original everything that spent its life on the highway. I’ve only ever bought high mileage well taken care of used vehicles and do most of my own work. I can’t afford anything if else and am familiar with Fords. Like Tom said I went to 5w30 Valvoline synthetic. It’s better in every way. I still miss my 2000 but the third gens are a huge step forward. Get one, you’ll love it.
I have a 2012, bought it with ~100k on it, now has 119k, and love it. It has an occasional startup rattle, and something is up with the IWE system, but overall been good to us.
