Had tranny serviced by my tranny guy..lol. He said everything looked good. No clutch material in pan and fluid looked good. No burnt smell or any signs of overheating. Some valve...sorry cant remember the name was a bit worn and he said its the smallest ford uses in the 4r100. He put a larger one in and now it shifts pretty good. No more 2 second delay on full throttle shift!!:pepper::pepper: Time to take her to the track...lol.

Also had the resonators installed on the exhaust. Look like mini glass packs. It made a tremendous difference. You guys probably would not like it.. not as loud. But now I feel I can drive around with out attracting everyones attention and the highway cruise resonance/rumble is gone. It can make some noise...just not near as much. The best part is its a very high flow exhaust system yet not so loud. I will see if I can get photos of it as it is a work of art how he fit it all in there. Imagine dual 3" exhaust where one 2 1/2" previously was and nothing hits, bangs or rattles against anything.

No you cannot see them unless you look under vehicle. They are actually behind the muffler above the axle. Staggered so they fit next to each other. No part of the exhaust hangs low with the exception of the tailpipes of course. The crossmembers are lower than the exhaust!

And thank you Panda!!

The shop called them resonators... but to me they look like mini glass packs. They are just smaller as they are designed to use with mufflers. By themselves I think the exhaust would be really loud but the combination of them with my magnaflow work well together. I dont have the part number would have to ask the shop.

I was reminiscing about my build...lol. It is still interesting to me anyways to go back and review as the build was progressing. I actually finished the build about a week before we went on vacation to the outer banks with the family towing a 20' boat.. I was a bit crazy but lucky for me all went well.

Still having some tune issues I hope to eventually work out but overall it is running well. Looking forward to this upcoming race season and hopefully I can improve significantly on its times. I do plan to put it on the dyno again to get updated numbers with current mods, but may wait till after a few more "minor" mods are completed.

I just ordered my newest toy for my expy!!!

It is a J&S Vampire knock control unit and gauge.

J&S Vampire

Since I have a non factory combination the timing table is really a best guess. It is based off the lightning timing table but the TFS heads are slow burn vs the fast burn PI factory heads so the tfs heads require more timing. How much is the question of course. Not to mention the different cams likely change the timing curve as well. The factory spends thousands of man hours dialing the timing tables using sophisticated equipment. How can I as an individual tuner hope to dial in my timing table as well as the factory? Guess the real answer is I can't, but I hope the J&S unit will be a powerful tool in helping me dial it in much more precise.

The added performance and efficiency once its dialed in not to mention safety net should make it well worth the $$. I also have heard nothing but good things about it.

It arrived this week!

Looking forward to getting it installed and testing it out. I now have a tool to dial in my timing table for my aftermarket cams and tfs heads. Its also a great safety net should any issues occur with the fuel system or intercooler.

Well I made a major breakthrough this past week. I got access to and have a complete stock lightning tune. I did some comparisons between it and my custom tune. Typically only custom programmers have access to these but not the individual tuners. With the software I have I know what has been changed and what still is stock (with my custom tune) and I was certain many of the tables had to be off due to the differences between the lightning and the expedition. The primary changes on my custom tune from stock were only to the mass air table, timing tables, and several misc parameters.

I found the lightning tune was vastly different in almost every respect. Not suprised! IAC table, fuel puddle mass per aircharge table, injector delay table, failed mass air table, O2 sensor delay table, dashpot functions and literally 1000 other parameters and tables which I would have no hope of dialing in without access to the factory "lightning" tune. Why my tuner did not use these lightning programming with the few necessary items changed that are specific for the expy I will never know. The motor has much more in common with a lightning than an expedition. I changed most of the programming that I knew was still stock on the expy with those from the base lighting tune with the exception of what I knew would not apply. Now all my drivability/tune issues I had are completely gone. Idles much smoother and its nice and steady. No more surging!! I was able to lower my idle by 100 rpm so far.. May try more but the cams are more aggressive than stock. The air/fuel ratio is much more stable with changing throttle.

I am excited now because it runs like it is factory stock with a bit more power. Started the install today for the J&S safeguard. Cant wait to use it to dial in the timing tables.

By the way....for any potential custom tuners. WOT is relatively easy to tune along with air/fuel trims at idle. "Drivability" is a PITA to get correct. Widely varying conditions, transitions and circumstance. Give the factory a lot of credit for the time, $$ and effort spent here to get it right.

Need much more info. Is this only while using the programmer? Is it right before it shifts? Did you change your shift points?? What gear?? Thats at the top of the rpm band in a stock expy. 1st should be commanding a shift at near 5,000 rpm wot, 2nd at 4,700 and 3rd at 4,000.

The J&S is up and running and she works!!

Now to dial in my timing tables.

Also have to mount the gauge but it is working. May have to loose my "oh shit" bar and pillar mount some gauges. Don't particularly like the looks of the pillar mount but not too many options.
