Check my previous post above..... I have ported it. The blower was relatively easy... the lower intake is a pain in the a$$. Too many different angles to work with. Since I am going with tfs heads I wanted everything before it to flow as best as possible so the tfs would be more beneficial. Box stock tfs heads are supposed to flow better than fully ported PI heads!! But damn are they expensive. I only plan to port match the tfs heads to the intake. Untouched otherwise.

I am hoping all this improves not only power but efficiency when I can manage to keep my foot out of the throttle..:hmm:

I had great success with my mustang home porting it. Heads, intake, plenum...etc.

Sorry man I missed that:Grenade:

Not to steal the post, but I want to do a V10 swap in mine. I already have the 4r100 trans and a 9 3/4 rear diff in my Exped. Should be a drop in V10, rewire and exhaust.

Not exactly a drop in. But it can be done. You can use the above link for info on this swap. The O.P. sounds willing to help with tech support and questions.

I chose the lightning swap because it is a well proven combo with high aftermarket support. I believe the lightning swap would be more fuel efficient also.... if you can manage to stay out of the throttle. Your are stuck feeding the extra cubes regardless of throttle position with the v10. (HWY mpg's) Just my opinion.

I believe all 1st gen 5.4's came with 4r100 and 9.75 rear. The 4.6's did not.

I am also a diehard blower guy as I have had, built and tuned a supercharged mustang since the early 90's. Gotta love boost!! :)

I think some xlt's and certain packages (non towing package) came with the 4r70 and smaller gear ratio (3.55) non limited slip and possibly the smaller diff as well, don't quote me on that though.

Sorry walnuts.... plan to keep this one. :)

Still have a long road ahead of me getting it installed.:hmm: While waiting for the motor I have home ported the blower, intake, and upper plenum. Will add some pics.

Begin disassembly day 1. Maybe 1 hr in it....another hour studying what it is going to take to remove the block. Wish I had a lift. It would be much easier removing the body for access.

A few differences I have noted thus far between working on my Expy vs my Stang.

1. Don't need step ladder to work on my stang
2. Can work under the expy with out jacking it up.
3. When I work on my mustang... I get it dirty. When working on my Expy it gets me dirty.

Pulled parts off of old motor, cleaned, and started to bolt on timing cover. Well... timing cover bolts that go into the heads are too large for the tfs heads.........sucks....now I have to figure out what and where to get the correct ones. I know the thread count and size as they are the same as the lower bolts but I require the special bolts with the studs for mounting accessories.

I hate delays! Yeah I know they will happen and will likely run into more.:nono:

Well its been just over a week since I first started pulling the motor and the new motor is almost ready to drop in minus all the trimmings. Its been quite an adventure. More like P.I.A.... reminds me what I disliked about working on my mustang. Nothing goes as planned.

Went to install timing cover.... bolt holes in tfs heads wrong size for 5.4 setup.:wtf: Sooo... Drilled and tapped got cover on. Went to install canton windage tray. Doesnt even come close to fitting with stock pick up tube.:help: Cant even modify it to make it fit so its going back. Had to cut oil pick up tube pedestal down to get proper clearance from oil pan.... Glad I checked this because the ARP main stud nuts are larger than stock bolt heads.:hmm: Went to bolt BBK headers on and refuse to use paper style gaskets they came with. So I get the felpro metal gaskets (same as stock) and of course they do not fit with the larger exhaust ports of the tfs heads. So I modify them to work. Get the passenger side header on and go to install the drivers side header and it does not fit!! :emotions122: Well...... After some modifications with a hammer and die grinder:biggun:.... perfect fit.

I did leave out all the things that have worked. Just venting some of my fustrations of today...lol. This just reminded me of what I already knew. When you venture from stock.... there is no such thing as a bolt-on.

I just hope when I am all done it will have been worth it!!
