So I went to a shop to get a quote for a true dual exhaust for my 04 expedition

I asked for mufflers ( he recommended flowmasters 3 chamber) which idk what the difference between 2 nd 3 chamber but he said 3 were better.

And I asked for an x pipe ( nd he just said okay)
And for tips im going with the srt8 grand cherokee look nd he will supply the tips as well

Would it be cheaper if I got my own supplies or does 800 -1000 sound right?

is there specific mufflers nd x pipes for a 5.4? Or can I just order any mufflers nd x pipe I want?

Also I'm going with 2.5"

Please help

For a point of reference I had a complete custom exhaust installed from shorty headers back. Dual 3" all stainless all mandrel bends. High flow cats, magnaflow dual in and out muffler with built in x pipe. Resonators install after muffler. V-band clamps installed for easy removal for access to tranny, etc... Extra O2 bungs installed for wideband. All stainless hardware. $1320 Included new 02 sensor. All piping was mandrel bent and welded on site. No pre-fab bends or pipe.

In a first gen? Because they make dual exhaust for those in my case with the irs it has to be custom. Were the shorty headers included for 13xx??

Mine is first gen but it is all custom fabricated. Most kits are cat-back. If you can get dual exhaust kit from headers back it would likely be cheaper!? (installed yourself) No mine did not include headers. Custom fabricated exhaust does not come cheap...and you pay more for stainless. Pre fab is generally less expensive.

well i spent 550 for my exhaust and i have true dual from the cats back, two flowmaster 40 series mufflers with 2.5 inch piping all the way and then two chrome angle cut tips. its harder to install it on a second gen thouugh because of the rear suspension

seems kinda high... but depending on were you are at it varies... on my old silverado for duals in NJ was like 750... came back home and went to a local shop and had same setup done for 300.. that was in NY...

tips I usually bought off ebay... a lot cheaper since everyone around here only sells chrome non-stainless... and those were with straight pipe no mufflers... but then again you can shop around I found my flowmaster 40s cheaper and hap shop install them... only thing I am lacking is a X pipe.... but will do that soon or when current setup needs replacing... I wouldn't see why your current stuff wont work... most shops can expand the pipe to make them fit...

They don't make DI/DO kits for 2nd gens. It seems a little high but not horrible. See if they'll take a little more off

I was quoted $240, that was with a di/do flow master muffeler 2.5" pipe all the way back , my choise of about 20 stainless tips and fancy reusable muffler clamps. unfortunately they refuse to install it, only fit it and take it back off.

I figure scrapping the cats should get me right around what the exhaust costs

I live right between Madison and Milwaukee in Helenville. Exhaust shop is Harrods muffler in Fort Atkinson WI. they wont do any cat-less installations, they will make up the exaust in several pieces and give you all the clamps and stuff you will need to do it if you want to go cat-less

If you have them re use yur old cats, or buy new ones they have absolutely no problem installing it for you
