What's the most - off set can I go ?? Opinions

I'm undecided if I want 20" wheels or stay 17".
But one thing for sure I want is to run
35 12.50 tires.
I really want a negative off set like the wheel in the picture.
But I'm sure more negative off set I run the more the tire is going to run. Which I'm OK with trimming the valance and removing the step sides.
Any ideas ??

Yes that looks good too but the problem is with these stock wheels when we go to Mud Fest no matter how much I play n mud it will never get on the body ..
I was thinking like a -22 off set like in the picture above would put the tire out past the fender but at the same time that would probably cause me to have to cut more than just the valance ??
Or another option is to buy 2" wheel spacers .
But dropping $2,000 for wheels n tires I don't wanna end up with something I can run BC of to much off set

You won't be able to go higher than a 33" tire with a 12" wide wheel I'm pretty sure

No prob! I think those would work.. mine are 17x9 and with the 35s they rubbed like hell on the inner fender and valence, I had to trim in the inner and bang in a pinch weld on the firewall and the valence I just hit with the dremel

Well if u got 35's with -6 off set wheels and u had to do all the above then maybe I shouldn't try to go past -6.
But I'm definitely going 35's as that will add about another 3 inches to the lift on top of the 3.5/2.5 kit I just got.

That was my thinking too and yeah the more negative offset you go with the more rubbing problems you're gonna have so I only went to -6

2009 expedition ssv. These are 20x12 with a -44mm offset, tires are 265/50/20 hybrid on the stock suspension. No issues. Didn't have to cut anything. No rubbing even on tight turns. Surprised me.

That what I want there but unfortunately I don't want to sacrifice the additional highth that I would gain with 35 12.50's.
But man that is the wheels off set I want but found out -6 is the most I can go with 35's

I'm right there with you Scoot. Trying to decide on what I can fit on my 03 EB with the 3.5/2.5. I'm thinking about only running 33's because I don't want to have to do a lot of cutting. I want to go negative on the offset too but I'm just not sure how much. I'm looking to run a 17x9 with either 295/70/17 or 33x12.5. Any suggestions?

The trimming of the front valance to run 35's is very minimal. Like using a Dremel to do it.
I'm looking to get extra inches in the suspension highth and running 35's will add to it.
But again I have no problem cutting my fenders to be able to run 37's hahaha..
And I'm taking off the stepside boards also to help it give my Expedition a higher MOJO look..
But to run anything on a wheel with more offset than -6 you would need to run a lower profile tire or worse case smaller tires..
I take my Expedition to Mud Tests back woods hunting fishing and camping so every inch I can gain the better.
I'm already doing my homework one doing a f150 front suspension swap and a solid axle in the rear to get a 6 to 8 inch lift..
I built lowriders and install hydraulics some fabrication and modifying the frame and suspension to do it it is up my alley..

I want as much height as I can get but I figured I would need to do a lot of cutting for 35's. My running boards are already off and I'm fine with cutting plastic so I'm open for suggestions

Alright here we go, I'll try to explain where the trimming and pinch welds are.
Here's the front valence on the side of the front bumper.

Here's the front facing part of the fender liner I just shortened it so the tires had more room to articulate with suspension with no running at all.

Here's the back side of the front wheel well, the side against the firewall where you will need to trim the fender liner and bang in the pinch weld then coat it with some spray.

PS: I should add that I have tires measuring 34.9" tall and 12.6" wide with -6mm offset 9" wide wheels... I have 0 rubbing at all at full lock and still NO rubbing with a fully weighed down truck at full lock. This seems to be the best way and easiest way if you're going to trim to fit the larger tires.

Also: truck has all new suspension and components and the 3.5"/2.5" eBay lift kit (level kit).
