Tired of lookin at the ugly rear muffler sticking out behind rear bumper. It’s coming off this weekend and I’m going with a side exit pipe. Will update in next couple days

Looking forward to how this turns out. I'm close to doing the same. You gonna get some slip on pipe and clamp it or getting a muffler shop to weld something on?

How are you going about the project. On mine the big muffler is Tucked up underneath on the passanger side about mid-truck, on our 5.4L ones they have muffler wide way vertical instead of wide way horizontal.

I hate everything about the exhaust. The look number one. There is a good chance it gets hung up on something off-road. But the sound is a close second.

Looks good. Do you think it will stain your paint if it is not far out enough?
I don’t think so. Going to see how it looks with a similar tip on it like on OEM muffler or whatever you wanna call it. My truck usually doesn’t go more than three days without at least being wiped down with some sort of speed wax so I probably would t notice it anyways. It will be attached with a clamp so if I need to, I will loosen it and just point it down more. Will be painted black as well to hide it a little more. If carbon monoxide and exhaust fumes weren’t such a health hazard I’d probably just cut it up real high and dump it under the trunk

I’m not expecting too much of a difference in sound. I will be surprised if there is. My main reason for this is looks honestly. Got someone coming over tomorrow to cut old one off now so stay tuned

I am watching this thread with interest. Beyond the fact that I also dislike the exhaust and tip location/look, I need a different solution that tucks everything up higher because I frequently end up backing my truck up to all curbs at truck stops behind my tour bus and it scrapes every time. I have to back up all the way to get my Bus to tuck in tight in the spot since we are over 65’ long total. Keep posting pics.
Your tires are nice btw. I love our trucks with aggressive shoes. f2e252ba36c28d78b9814a74c93f3539.jpg

Thanks! Definitely sets it apart from others.
I’ll post more pics tomorrow once I get old one cut off and figure out exactly where I want new one to sit and whether or not I want an exhaust tip on it.

Looking at another Ex same color as yours for the wife. I’ve gotta stay 3rd gen bc I cant stand the look of the new 18s

I thought the tiny black muffler in the back just slid on? You have to cut it off?

Guess I could go look at mine but its 5 in the morning and cold outside

There is a clamp but it’s way up top just above where the system bends over the suspension. Too far up to use the new elbow pipe I have.

Well unfortunately I have to take the truck to an exhaust shop because where the hangers are welded on and the exhaust bends coming out the back, there is not enough room to just do a new elbow pipe with a clamp. Results to follow

I’ve been seeing tons of ‘18’s here in Ann Arbor and I have to agree. They are not trucks any more :( they are weird crossover looking SUV’s.

So muffler shop wanted $100 to cut off muffler and weld the elbow I purchased ($30) onto existing pipe. I couldn’t justify spending $130 on an aesthetic upgrade such as that when I could easily throw that money at my wheel spacers I need. Sorry everyone, we will have to wait again until someone else pulls the trigger on this
