Looking to upgrade to an EL, need the room. Is the above a good deal? Just drove by it tonight and stopped by and looked at it. Looks clean at first glance, and at night, lol.
It's 4x4, buckets seats second row.

Bought a '12 Gator L 4x4 w/ 130k (close enough mileage, same year, Navigator L = essentially same truck, top trim level of Expedition EL) last May for $13k

A good price here would be...11k, maybe 12k. 13k okayish, 14k overpriced max

I agree, check Nada, or Kelly blue book. Compare on Craig's list, eBay's a bit high. Their trying to get way above retail. You've got a lot of bargain room if they want to sell. Private Party's are a better deal. No inflated prices like car lots.

You can't really compare prices between markets as supply/demand (and thus the fair market price) can vary significantly between markets. In Texas, for example, there seems to be a huge surplus of Expeditions and most are rust-free for many years. In much of the northeast, however, there seem to be far fewer Expeditions, especially if you're looking for something that hasn't succumbed to the megatons of salt poured on the roads every winter. When you get into ELs, the selection dwindles even further. Add in a luxury trim (eg Limited) and demand goes up because us northerners are suckers for creature comforts. :p Consequently, a clean EL here in the northeast will still fetch a premium. Auctions, of course, are an entirely different animal. If you're confident that you can handle any and all issues that an auction vehicle may present - or the price is good enough that you would even be ok paying someone else to handle said issues - then that's an avenue to explore.

All of that said, I plugged that vehicle's info into NADA along with your dealer's zip code and he's flat out asking too much. I usually aim somewhere between clean trade-in and retail if buying from a dealer with my target price dependent on what I'm getting for my money. Are there new tires, brakes, etc. on it? Is there a warranty of some kind and what does it include? Have they refinished the wheels and done a full detail that included the removal of all noticeable scratches? In short, you're paying that dealer premium to save yourself the time/money of doing these things on your own. Make sure you're getting some value for that spend.

If the difference is 6 or 7 grand AND a rust-free truck, it might be worth a detour to Texas

I paid almost $30k for my '14 limited with 70k miles just about a year ago. It was in pristine condition.

I'm in the NE, and I too had trouble finding what I wanted in the EL around here. I finally found my clean '14 EL Limited w/80K at a dealer just south of me. They wanted 25,700, and I told my goal was 25 out the door after paying our NY taxes. They worked with me and made it happen, even dropped it another $600 as it needed new tires. I got mine for 22K and it did work out to about 25K after taxes and tires.

bought my 2014EL (202b) for $34K w/34K miles in late 2015
figure its worth maybe $22K w/80K miles now (incl taxes i'd have to pay)
I've been using …
value drops about $4K/year , maybe $3K next year

had to get my dealer buddy to import it from Chicago, hard to find around here
