Weight, packaging, and performance at altitude. The lower the weight, the more available payload. The shorter the engine, the more interior room.

That makes sense but the suburban has the same interior room (~120sq ft) and payload (~1700lbs) as the expedition max.

Just weird they don’t make a small block v8 an option.

Ive been averaging 21mpg on short trips back and forth to work with my 2018 tow pack 4x4. It gets great milage in my opinion. It made 25.5 mpg on a long trip I ran it on. I can't expect anymore than that from a huge heavy vehicle!
It’s not even that heavy your curb weight is only 5692, I’ve got an extra 700 lbs on my curb weight with my 16

Ah, but that Suburban's payload comes with the 5.3L V8. If you want the 6.2L....

Here's a link to random dealer's website showing tire and loading information for a GMC Yukon XL Denali. (For whenever the link dies, it's ~1515lbs).

Here's a picture of my payload sticker (If the link doesn't work, it's 1671lbs):

So I've got 10% more payload than the Yukon XL Denali, even after the ginormous sunroof and a bunch of metal skid plates...

I guess the payload is lower on the new expeditions and GM units. My 07’ was 1,790 pounds.

Yeah. My preference would be 150lbs less in ‘payload’ to get a big naturally aspirated V8. Even with 8 people in my denali I have hundreds of pounds in payload margin....Not to mention I’ve literally never driven more than 10 miles with 8 passengers.

I get your point though, extra engine weight eats into payload.

Just learn to get out of the throttle. Anytime you get into the turbos, its gonna suck fuel. You might have 3.31 gears, so yours should be able to do better than mine.

I’m right around there. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with your vehicle. It’s easy to get shi**y mileage...you have to really work to get anything above 16 and anything above 18 takes highway cruising. For me anyway.

Picked up 19 platinum 4x4 two weeks ago. I'm freaking out. - the computer says I'm averaging 11.7 mpg - this is my wife's car and she does not even know how to put the thing in sports mode or turn off the start / stop feature and she does not speed - pick up kids drop off kids - every time I get in the car the gas is down huge - I traded ina MB GL 550 (twin turbo v8). With 305 22 tires and we were getting about 16-17mpg - if these numbers are real - Fors is going to have problems - class action if they stay around these numbers
