a 98 XLT, mostly with scrap metal and my welder, tho I have bought a couple items I’m not able to build.. I will get into mods, as well as future plans for the near future.. Just a picture or 2 for now.. fb36667c6ab6082fb74ebcffb402bc22.jpg

Time to throw down some info.

Bought my 98 totally stock. Bought 31” tires on the way home. Put some lights on too, and thought I was badass.. oops.. Had no idea how wrong I was.. bought another for parts..

Fast forward too now. Posi front and rear.. I have 3” suspension lift via rear blocks and torsion bar raised in front. Also have 3” body lift.. Ran into the all known cv angle issues soon as I raised the torsion bars. Constantly pulling shafts apart instead of breaking them. Recently dropped the diff 2” and haven’t had a chance to play with the results yet. Currently sitting on worn out 33” Milestar Patagonia’s and getting ready to swap in some 35” federal couragias..

Front and rear bumpers are homemade, removing 1 foot of frame rail up front and installing a redneck skid plate bumper.. Solid as f*#k.. Cut the rear quarters up 10 inches from the lowest point, had to cut and relocate a few body support sections, and built the rear bumper to hug the truck as tight as possible. Equally as solid as the front.

Motor is stock, with the addition of short tube headers, removed the second cat from each side, and installed a fireball racing muffler.. I like loud.. Gotts mod is the only other change to the motor. No tune as of yet..

Still running stock 3.31 ring and pinion, on the list are 4.88.. Should be sometime in the coming spring. That list also includes winch and receiver cradle.

Currently in the process of changing torsion bars, swapping to the air suspension model torsion bar, as I’ve gotten recent info to indicate it is softer than the standard suspension torsion bar. Both sway bars have been deleted.

Dealing with lung disease for a number of years, Moab has been at the top of my bucket list. My plan is to make it happen sometime fall of 2022, before the option is off the table2ee3935b7e54a3d5c64526ce0591d056.jpg
.. It takes time, and a toll on myself, but this truck will be ready and up to my expectations by then. Will update as the project continues. Go ahead and tell me I can’t wheel Moab in an expedition, everyone has. That’s the exact reason it’s going to happen. I’ve done everything with this truck I was told I couldn’t, and I don’t plan to stop now.. 66a05dbec59e146cd452fea6670993b8.jpg

Got in contact with RCV yesterday, they responded today. Far as I’m concerned, as a wheeler, weakest link hands down..

I’d like to be a part of this Moab trip of yours, maybe we can make a expedition meet, show the Jeeps what’s up. I just need gears, lockers, and larger tires and I’m ready to roll.

It Couldn't Be Done
Somebody said that it couldn't be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it!
Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it;"
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.
There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure,
There are thousands to point out to you one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing
That "cannot be done," and you'll do it.

With all the smoke in the air, I haven’t been able to do much.. going to use the old mounting brackets from the running boards to fab up a simple slider for each side. It will probably require a little extra bracing, but I’ve got the materials. Probably just some simple 2” tubes to keep the rockers off the rocks.. working on the little brother this week, rebuilding the front end. Got the full kit from Detroit because it’s only a road rig.. Thats ash and not dust, from the Oregon wildfires floating into washington.. 17f5d590af0279ed0ebf3fe54c4b6693.jpg

I used the factory brackets to hold them in place for location and welding.
I bought the pre welded hoop and welded it on,

I looked em up online last nite.. Really digging the prices, might as well buy them pre made too, with the slight differences betweeen welded and not welded..

Started on my sliders this week. Getting as much done as I can at a disabled pace while waiting to get tires.. That’s my Ugly Duckling, ugly as hell but tough as nails..

Work is gonna be slow for a while. Have a compressed spinal cord at the C7 disc, limiting my abilities with my left arm. Not gonna stop me for now, but I’m looking at possible surgery, so that could put a halt for a while if it happens.
