I was driving about 35 mph yesterday in my 2019 Expy Max and I fully opened the rear windows to get rid of a gasoline odor that I had from a gas can that I was taking home. The front windows were up.

OMG ! the entire vehicle started shaking like a wheel was coming off. If all four windows were down the vibration went away. Has anyone else experienced this? Please try it while you are out and let me know if they all do this. I never heard of a car where you can't put the back windows down w/o the front being open.

Yes, mine is the same and it is annoying. My 2001 would kinda sorta do the same thing in certain cases, but nothing like Max does. I used to pop the rear side windows to alleviate it in the '01. Just something with the wind rushing past an open window to a sealed chamber. I wish they coulda put in something like a 1-way vent flap in the body somewhere to prevent it.

I usually vent the sunroof and it helps.

It is annoying, mine do it and so does my Explorer. Wonder if it's because the side glass is almost straight up and down.

You can also open the rear body vent windows.

The owner’s manual for my 2015 has a notice about this concern - your manual probably does too.

Why open them fully?! Do you think it makes a difference for venting out the fumes if they're open 100%, versus say, 20%?

On a side note - has anyone driven with the tailgate window open? I had some gas cans in the back the other day and was tempted, but worried it would damage the heated window connector, or worse, shatter the window somehow.

That's caused by standing waves in the airspace that form at the resonant frequency of the cabin interior geometry. Kind of how a like a pipe organ makes sound. The note (frequency) is determined by the cavity space.
It is caused by a lot of air coming in and none going out. It raises the air pressure and sometimes even makes your ears pop. When the air pressure inside gets greater than the air pressure pushing in it makes the interior air pressure (for lack of a better word) burp out. The burps cause the cavitation. If you crack the front window you give another escape for the inside air pressure without the burps.

I would have thought wind buffeting was listening to a parrot head after a Jimmy Buffet concert.

The interaction between the two masses of air produces vortexes that compress and decompress the air, producing the throbbing effect.
umm, isnt that what i said but without the ****** content.

My granddaughter likes to ride in the back with the window down. I can only take it up to about 35mph, then the helicopters arrive :) At that point the windows go back up,

It is a design flaw with ALL Ford trucks and SUV’s. So say a buddy of mine who was a plant manager (retired) at the KC plant for many moons.
The designers expected everyone to drive with the climate control system running 100% of the time. (Meaning glass up and either AC or heat working.
In other works they all do it to some degree or another. The only way to “fix” the issue is by trying to find the sweet spot of just how far you can lower the glass, open the rear side windows or sun roof etc.
