I have a new 2022 Expedition Limited. Has 750 miles on it, has only been in my driveway for a month. I opened the tailgate yesterday (in -30 degree wind chill) and the lift gate spoiler cracked in half, the brake light is hanging off above the rear windshield, and the roof panel punctured and has a hole in it right where it meets the spoiler. I heard the cracking and popping as the lift gate opened, but I never thought the damage would be as bad as it is. Has anyone had issues with body work cracking and breaking in the cold? Will the dealership cover this or am I going to have to go through insurance? Needless to say, I’m very disappointed in the quality here and can’t believe the cold could do that much damage to a brand new $80k car. Have owned many expeditions over the years in this climate, and have never had this issue.
Same thing happened to me here in NJ waiting for a answer from Ford to see how they are going to resolve this matter.

er @AJ82 's requests and suggestions in posts 40 and 49 of this thread, I will report back whether mine has the flap or not, along with my build date. If memory serves, it was August 27, 2022, but I will confirm.
Took me a bit to get back to this thread, but confirming that I do have the flap, and my build was August 22nd week, coincidentally same as @29twonine in post #65. Now I'll have to go back out and see how tight it is fitted, per @giudi1md 's observations in post #66.

This is crazy. I had the exact thing happen to mine 2 days ago during the cold spell. Cracked plastic spoiler over the rear hatch and a puncture to the roof. We are taking it to the dealership tomorrow. I hope this is covered under warranty. Pics below.
if you don't mind, can you please send your VIN

Will not be covered - should but won’t - I spoke to my insurance about this, and they said that they would not involve the legal department and what would happen as if they had a lot of similar claims then it would get flagged, and they would proceed from there

I have had this same thing happen to my 2022 Expedition twice in December. After 2 dealer requests and attaching a number of pictures from this site to prove the damage is happening to other vehicles, the dealer is finally handling the repair under warranty.
I had to write a letter to the dealerships owner, GM and service manager as well as leave a negative Google review, before the dealership really pushed back on Ford.

Something design wise is very wrong. sure hope something good comes from all this pain you folks are experiencing. I believe from this thread this appears to only be happening to 22 models. I bet the prices on the spoilers will go up by about 25% in the next couple weeks, and they'll be on backorder for 6 months. Everyone should start using their phones to record the operation of their liftgates anytime there is rain/snow/ice out there.

@mwalden , do you by any chance have the warranty claim number and be willing to share it here? Maybe that would help people that are currently fighting their dealers for coverage.

is there a way to adjust the liftgate spoiler at all? i have a 22 and noticed its really close to the roof panel on the driver side and further away on the passenger side. i would like to center it up to try and alleviate the potential for the driver side hitting. im already refraining from opening it in the cold as much as possible!

i tried the 4 bolts up top (2 on each when you lift the glass) but it didn't seem to move at all.

Can you post photos of the condition from each angle in a way that shows the differences in the size of the gap?
How is the weatherstripping?

I wonder if setting the lift height to something shorter than full open would prevent this as a short term fix for those who haven’t experienced it yet.

reading posts it looks like 2 people said their dealer would cover - but nobody has given a claim number or dealer name - i bought my car from Serra and i know they have at least 3 expeditions with the cracked roof
