2005 Eddie Bauer Rear suspension Springs and Shocks Query

Hi, I need your help my recently purchased 05 Expy EB rear suspension are dead I need to replace it. Since I have to replace it I want to improve the ride.
I want it softer than the stock. I hope to get some improvement mostly at the rear. Any suggestion will be great.

Please let me know if I need to replace the springs to get a softer ride or just the shocks?

I would also like to have a softer ride. I think shocks make most difference, but someone will hopefully chime in for you soon.
