Here's my full upgrade:
Cooler: DL3Z-7A095-B is the ford part number. Order it anywhere. painless install, cut one hose, it'll be obvious.
Deep pan with a drain plug (now you can change the fluid easily) PML item 11089:

Other pan kits are available from other companies too: Dorman Transmission Pan 265-899
Trans pan gasket (might as well): BL3Z7A191A
New filter with a deeper pickup: Ford part number 7L1Z7A098A, also known as a Motorcraft FT171 (BL3Z7A098A is the standard filter)
New dipstick for easy fill: B&M Transmission Fluid Dipstick 22200.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-22200/make/ford This is clearly overpriced, google 22200 dipstick; pretty sure the generic ones are the same for a lot less money
Qty 2: Ford Mercon LV: XT105Q3LV
This job is pricey the first time, and dirt cheap every time after that. Just drain and fill a few quarts using the drain plug on the pan, and fill under the hood. I had to change my fluid about 6 times (once a month for 6 months) to get it back to red, and now I change it every 2-3 years.
Might as well do the transfer case while you're in there. Special tip: Pull the fill plug first. If at least a quart comes out the fill plug, the inner seal between the trans and and transfer case is bad (sorry, but now you know).
