My ex-rental 2019 Expedition XLT 4x4 has a horrendous ride. When driving very slowly (5mph) over parking lot speedbumps, the truck rolls and sharply throws my wife in the passenger seat around. I a guessing this is the result of very hard driving for the first 63k miles while it was in Hertz rental service.

I know I need to replace shocks or struts but I am at a loss if what will be the best bang for the buck to get a smoother ride that will still be OK for occasional towing. I would love to hear suggestions.

My 2006 Eddie Bower 4x4 with 180k miles had a much nicer ride then this new Expy

Any particular line of bilsteins? What about front suspension? Hold off on front until the back suspension is done to re-assess?

5100 is the only Bilstein line that they make for the 2018+’s. Two of my stock shocks were leaking in the first 5000 miles. When I changed them, one wouldn’t compress all of the way. It had a hard stop to it.

So I just order front Bilstein 5100's and 1 of 2 rear 5100 (Rock auto are on back order for the 4th shock)

I noticed that on most of the replacement videos, they are replacing the entire strut assembly including springs and seats. Should I be doing the same or will I be good with just the gas shocks replacements? The truck as 72k miles

I am in the middle of installing the new front Bilstein 5100 shocks but I cannot find the torque specs for the single through bolt gen3 (406ft/lb) to the the lower control arm. All the specs I have found are for the single through bolt mounting while mine is the two vertical oriented bolts.

Could use help here ASAP as it took a lot longer for this first school and I still need to do the passenger side so I can drive to work tomorrow.
