I like the new tailgate, but I'm skeptical of the black treatment. If it's piano black plastic, it will be covered with scratches and swirls after a few years.
Especially the way dust and dirt collects on the back of these things! Drive on winter roads here in Minnesota and the back is covered in a grimy mess. If indeed it is piano black plastic, any touch to this will leave a scratch! Imagine it after a touch carwash!! BTW, I don't do touch carwashes, so would not be a worry for me, but for others...

I have a two-part theory about this. 1. Ford was pushing their rear wheel drive/four wheel drive hybrid drive train on the police version of the Explorer. But, they've dropped the 3.3 liter V-6 hybrid from civilian Explorers. If they are maxing out their manufacturing capability in that market, they may not have parts for us civilians. =OR= 2. Ford isn't confident about the reliability of their hybrid drive train which is why they've dropped it from the Explorer and aren't offering it on the Expedition.

The hybrid drivetrain for the Explorer is different from the PowerBoost though. For the Explorer it was - according to Ford - about production capacity where they couldn't make enough due to high demand for the police version. Ford then choose to not add production capacity, as they believed they could skip civilian right to full battery-EV. At least that is what seemed to have happened, as nearly no investment at all occurred in both Europe and US with plug-in hybrids, but all chips going to full BEV. That dramatically backfired as we know, so now they are scrambling. So I don't think it is reliability. Also as odd enough they do sell a hybrid civilian Explorer in Europe (Explorer ST with plug-in, same setup Lincoln had), which also seems to underline that it isn't about that it couldn't work.

But for the Expedition they have the capacity to build it, as that hybrid is widely available on the F150. As far as I know, no reliability issues? Note that this is a completely different electrical-engine and battery setup, and a bold-on solution to the existing gearbox. Here the issue is just that the Expedition is built in a different factory and hence that assembly line needs to be converted to support it. Union contracts seemed to suggest they were going to do that, but apparently not just yet now.

All in all, disappointing IMHO.

We saw a 25 expedition today at the OC auto show, wish I would have grabbed some pics but had kids. It’s on a display booth where you can’t approach but have some reps that answer questions. I asked about a tremor max as well.
Also the one on display was a platinum but I could see the seat was missing the massaging seat button.
Dash looked better than the pics but still pushed back and lots of dash from what I could see, also very curious about the placement of the tow controls are next to cup holders.

I asked them to close the tail gate and it was smooth, both portions open and close simply. But yes that black just stands out. It was one of the stock photo type grey blueish ones.

Front end actually looks pretty good in person.

... I'm skeptical of the black treatment. If it's piano black plastic, it will be covered with scratches and swirls after a few years. The extra lighting in the tailgate and roof rack is nice.

If it is Piano Black plastic as speculated, then having PPF applied over it asap should be recommended.

Did they answer your question about the Tremor Max?

Saw the whole lineup at the Texas State Fair today. They’re beautiful and the weird dash, while weird, is actually pretty well done. I was skeptical about the dash in the release, but in person it grew on me quickly.

The two-tone splitgate is … not great. The black is piano black plastic so swirls will abound.

I can confirm the Platinum has massaging front seats, and it’s actually multiple modes of massage (rolling, recovery, etc.). IMG_0948.jpeg

I had to talk them into opening the cabin for me, all of the displays were locked. They let me in as long as I didn’t actually get in. That’s why I don’t have more photos.

I like the ergonomic placement of the new 'wide' display, but I'm very skeptical about the almost complete discarding of buttons and knobs—especially the tactile steering wheel buttons, the drive mode knob, and the multi-function 15" screen rotary knob (temp, seat heat/cool, fan). The steering wheel buttons look like they've been replaced with 'joystick' pads.

I'm wondering if you have to look at the screen and navigate menus and sub-menus just to do things you can now do by touch and without looking. That would not be good, or safe.

I like the additional storage in the console. Never understood why there was so little storage in such a large vehicle.

Is there more storage though?...theres a cubby in the front now, but you have to use the sliding console to access it, and they took away storage from the center console bin. I liked the current 20 navs solution for storage over my old 18 expy, and I think I like the navs floating console even over the new expys versions console.

I don’t think they took storage away in the center condole, it still has a really big bin under the flip up lid, not just the one you see.

I also don’t love the lack of buttons. There are still a couple buttons, but most are on the screen. The climate control “buttons” are ever-present at the bottom of the screen, so that’s something. I did read somewhere that based on research they have determined that most people leave the climate control on AUTO and fiddle with that very little, so they thought it was worth the extra real estate to kill those buttons.

The steeering wheel buttons are still buttons, I think they are just “multi function”, ie the ones you need light up when needed. So, for instance, if cruise control is not on, those controls aren’t available. The lady at the demo couldn’t confirm this, tho, so grain of salt and all that.

But I’m generally with you, buttons are better. At least there’s still a volume knob.
