The steeering wheel buttons are still buttons, I think they are just “multi function”, ie the ones you need light up when needed. So, for instance, if cruise control is not on, those controls aren’t available. The lady at the demo couldn’t confirm this, tho, so grain of salt and all that.
It remains to be seen exactly how they implemented the steering wheel joystick-trackpads (or whatever they are)....but when highway/freeway driving with cruise engaged, I can now—just by feel without having to look at anything—tick cruise speed up/down, turn off cruise momentarily if taking a tight offramp curve and then resume, or hit the resume button if cruise disengaged in stop-and-go traffic. If the new 'buttons' do have backlit indicia based on function, you'd have to take your eyes off the road to to look at them to see those current functions. So I guess we'll see how they work soon....

I noticed the '25 Escalade kept individual buttons on the steering wheel.

They go into the button function @8:00 in this video: https://youtu.be/HNoPumhp-8s?si=i4MD0Sk_tS1F95op

I think you’d be able to work these without looking after a short learning curve.

(What the lady told me at the launch event over the weekend was incorrect.)

There was a video where the journalist noticed the center console was smaller than usual. I will see if I can find.

I'm sure that once you drive and can see the functions of The screen in Front of you, it'll become second nature.

Edit: if there is a difference, it negligible.

With the steering wheel buttons, they are soft press and almost touch sensitive. when you touch them you will see a pad show up on the front driver display. One for each side of the steering wheel depending on which side was touched. The pad on the display will indicate what what each area (soft button) of the steering wheel will do when that button is pressed. To me the difference is that I need to look at the front driver display instead of looking at the steering wheel.

Saw the whole lineup at the Texas State Fair today. They’re beautiful and the weird dash, while weird, is actually pretty well done. I was skeptical about the dash in the release, but in person it grew on me quickly.

The two-tone splitgate is … not great. The black is piano black plastic so swirls will abound.

I can confirm the Platinum has massaging front seats, and it’s actually multiple modes of massage (rolling, recovery, etc.). View attachment 82459
Thanks for the pics.

So the black part is just a giant plastic trim piece glued to the sheet metal?

Also, any changes to the frame that would have addressed the IIHs poor safety ratings?

It does appear the black part is just plastic…I have no idea what’s underneath, but it’s likely just the metal.

Unsure on the frame, altho they did note (as was also mentioned in the FLT video) that there have been significant frame updates.

Thanks for that link.
It looks like the left pad has a dedicated spot in the upper righthand corner (red circle) that I'm guessing directly calls up the cruise function menu on the screen (?). Those screen menus for the pad functions, at least in the video, don't persist and disappear after a few seconds.

I guess we'll just have to wait until we can try it: "The proof of the pudding is in eating it." (1682)

One of these days, ima go look at the nautilus to get a feel for the controls, they are almost one to one in terms of function

A lot of info covered with the chief engineer and why some changes weren't done.
GREAT video, thank you! (Mostly the segment at the end with the Ford Engineer.) I found the podcast and listened to it on my run. I have 5 minutes left but I had a few notes and questions:

- TWO platinum trims, including “platinum ultimate” which gets the 24” wheels and will be the “primary home” of the CCD suspension (assume the CCD will be available in certain lower trims?)

- the rear wiper looks to be hidden under the top trim piece (like the GMs), yay!

- can you still open the rear window on its own, or is that gone now that the “split gate” has the top half that opens?

- Will the new ones still have the keypad on the door? That feature is CLUTCH

- I was wondering that as well with the ccd. It should be standard on all trims except base and tremor tbh.

- it does make the rear end cleaner. Funny though gm wasn't the first with it but they are always credited for it. And Toyota seems to be phasing that out.

-from what I've seen, the top can open on its own, or own both at the same time. It seems the key fob opens both, but the button on the lift gate opens the top, like if it was the lift glass.

-the nav is shown to keep it, but haven't seen it on the expy yet. Hope they keep it, it's one of the best features noone talks about in the industry.

I meant JUST the glass, not the whole top half of the hatch. I guess the glass opening may not be that exciting if the whole top half of the hatch opens now.

ALSO! Hybrid “by the end of the decade” per the engineer.

I really think they ran out of funding to implement the hybrid. I know ford pushed back their electrification plans but they were def hinting at the hybrid coming out for some years now. I bet the take rate for a hybrid expy or nav would've been pretty high.

I’d get one in a heartbeat.

As I've seen the videos it cannot, which as a biker is an issue for me. I may just go to the dealership in January with my rack to try on their show model if I can open it without hitting my bike

And hybrids at the 'end of the decade' doesn't sound like model year 2026 indeed. :(

I had to talk them into opening the cabin for me, all of the displays were locked. They let me in as long as I didn’t actually get in. That’s why I don’t have more photos.
No pictures of the payload stickers?

I'm with you on the keypad being essential. I use it all the time on my F150 and have since my first F150 in '09.

From what I've read its now a dealer added option. Was looking at a Ranger on the Ford website as a possible future truck and noticed the Keyless Entry pad as a $95 dealer installed option. Might be the same for the Expedition.
