Love the tow package. I didn't buy this for fuel economy, I bought it for comfort and safety. And performance. I live in Florida so I'm happy with a bigger radiator. I'm thrilled with 5star tuning too. They are the absolute best to work with. My next trip near thier shop I'm stopping in with pizzas. My only gripe is the stupid shocks I'm calling Bilstein on Monday.

So, when you make "11's", do you have to disable the RSC or Traction control??

Max does not come with trailer tow or 3.73 standard. You need to option the trailer tow package to get the 3.73. Some other packages for 2019 bundle a couple things and one might be the tow pack and gears..... I'm not 100% certain on all the 19's.

I've seen a few places on the forms here were folks say the 2019 Max does not come w/ 3.73 standard. That is most certainly true for the 2019 Expedition 4x2 Max, but I'm not so sure that this statement is true for the 2019 Expedition 4x4 Max.

I'm attaching Ford's latest published technical spec for the 2019 Expedition (as of today -- October 28, 2020), and at the top of the second page it clearly states that the final gear ratio for the 2019 4x4 Max is 3.73.

No asterisk or disclaimer about that gear ratio only coming w/ HD tow package for the 2019 4x4 Max.

Admittedly, this gets confusing when one looks at Ford's towing guide for the 2019 Expedition line up where it lists a scenario for 2019 4x4 Max w/ 3.31 max gear ratio. Not sure which document should be considered more authoritative.

Very helpful thread a a brand new owner with 3.73 gears and the HD Tow package, 4x4. I'm coming from a 2017 XLT 4x2 and noticed I was getting worse gas mileage granted I have the max and it's 4x4. My old Expedition with a smaller gas tank 24-25 gallons could go 500 - 525 miles and my current Expedition Max with I think a 28 gallon tank only shows 400 miles total range. Now I literally just got this vehicle and haven't even gone through a full tank yet but something I noticed right away likely due to the gears.

I pretty regularly get 16-17mpg mixed driving which gets me to the 500 mile range. A solid highway trip with no bike racks or anything gets me closer to 18-20mpg. Towing puts me lower and running 80 puts me lower as well as the bike rack full of bikes. I am pretty happy with it. If yours is new it will likely get better mileage as the engine breaks in a bit.

Hi
I live in Tonopah, AZ
Have a 2018 Expedition & 2020 Explorer ST
Expy has hd tow & FX4 package
Have both of them tuned with 5 star calibrations
EXPY averages 21mpg on 93 octane daily street calibration when using 91 octane E10
EXPY averages 20.2 mpg on E51 with E30 calibration
Would never buy one without the HD TOW as I want the 3:73 axle for better performance
That is my experience:33:

range is going to be projected off what mpg has been. So if it sat idling a lot being loaded or unloaded or cleaned up it will be a bit before that range is meaningful

pretty sure I saw 4x4 max 2019s when I was looking to buy that didn’t have the 3.73s. In fact more I think back I’m sure the one I test drove without the hd tow didn’t as it was lazy as can be.

I have a 4x4 max and it does not have the 3.73. Granted, mine is an '18 so maybe something changed, but I have always understood you needed the HD tow pack (and possibly the FX4) to get the 3.73.

I don't know why I always thought I had a 25 gal tank on my SWB Expy. I guess it is only 23.6 gal.

Anyway, I am usually getting 400-430 miles on mixed driving with the 3.73 gears. Max distance has been 460 miles. I am also getting much better gas mileage after switching to 93 from 87. I went from about 13 mpg under 87 to 16 mpg on 93. Significant, IMO. Not getting anywhere near the 19 estimated. I also don't drive aggressive. I usually go 5 over on the highway max and and not racing light to light in the city. I do use adaptive cruise alot (heard mixed on whether that is best or not for fuel efficiency).

Oh, I am getting 14 mpg consistently while towing, too.
