I most likely already know what the answer to this is, but I've got to verify...

I've been chasing various codes all pointing to coil packs and plugs for a bit. I finally decided to just swap them all and go from there. In the process of all of this, I come to the coil pack on the #1 cyl... I only see one wire going into the coil pack. I can see what looks like copper wire inside the connector. I cut the wrap around the wire to see if there's a second wire inside to find none at all... I cut down to where it branches off the main wrap of wires with nothing found. It seems like there's no way this should be correct, but stranger things have come up with this engine. So, my question is should there be a second wire going to the #1 coil pack? Also, if there is supposed to be one and I can't find one anywhere, what do I need for replacement? Entire wiring harness???

Thanks for any help!!!

attached is a wiring diagram for the COP's If you look there are two wires to each coil. The RD/LG is hot at all times 12V.

The LG/WH wire to coil #1 is the signal wire from the PCM

Thanks. Pretty much what I had figured... somehow the LG/WH one must have broken off way down in there and at the connector... great. So, I guess I either cut into the wrap around the main group of wires in hope of finding it and soldering new wire in or I have to replace the wiring all together... awesome...

I've been chasing a few codes that were all coil pack related. p0304, p0308, etc... I decided to just replace all the packs and plugs. In doing so today, I got to the #1 to find only one wire. Swapped out for new COP and plug and got the p0351 error. Makes sense with the one wire missing... guess I'll cut into the wrap around the main bundle of wires to see if I can find the LG/WH one that's missing. I'll see if I can source a new connector and solder in a new wire to replace the missing one if I can find the root of it inside there somewhere...

Well, cut all the way into the main loom of wires and didn't find the second wire... I did find a LG/WH wire that comes off the main loom a couple inches before the other wire encapsulated in it's own tape and plastic conduit. It is broken off at the end farthest from the main loom... I'm going to guess that this was the original wire that went to the connector at the coil pack and for some reason on cyl 1 they are routed separately to the pack. I can't find any pics of anyone else's wiring that is that specific and I've got to get this thing done and get on the road this afternoon. So, I'll give it a shot. If anyone happens to have a close up pic of the wiring coming to the coil pack on cyl 1, could you post it up? That way after I screw this up and come back inside I can see it... Thanks!

Don't guess, trace the wire with a meter to the correct pin in the pcm connector to verify that is the correct wire.

traced it out and it appears to be the correct wire... new connector wired up and everything replaced. I've now changed out all coil packs and plugs and it still runs like crap. Stumbles upon acceleration, misses very bad. Now throwing codes p0300, 0301, p0307, p0316... I've also replaced the PCV and all the lines and elbow associated with that. Where do I start looking next??? Injectors? Manifold gasket?
I had wanted to take this truck on a trip leaving today... guess I'll be cramming two large dogs, one 5 year old, myself and all assorted supplies into a Focus for a 600 miles each way trip... so happy... The entire reason I kept this truck was for trips and towing... I'm a little frustrated... hahahaa...

Anyone got any ideas on where to look next??? I'm out of town for a few days, but want to get a plan of attack together for when I do get home... I can't let this truck beat me.
