Three tines up/ down look not the same as the drawing...not sure how that can be...

Right. And I am sure the cams are not out of order, you can see the dirty phaser with soot is the PCV side (drivers) and I kept all cams, caps, etc in order on cardboard so I’m at a loss.

Does anyone sell new camshafts with the phasers pre-attached? That might save me a lot of trouble.

Here are better pics without crazy angles. Passenger side is out left and drivers side is going straight up and down. Drivers side should be going out right and pass should be straight up and down. My hypothesis is a phaser slipped on one of the cams and it no longer aligns correct. Ran perfect and no codes so know clue how it ran like this!! Wouldn’t this mean a phaser is stuck in retard?

It's good, look at the pictures in this video.

Intersting! In this video even Makuloco could not get this engine to line up by the book either with all new components. Thanks. Looks the same as where mine is at. I’d assume he wouldn’t have uploaded the video if he blew up his customers engine so maybe I’m safe lol.

You're safe. I was a mechanic before these were invented but from what I gather they have left and right marks on them which are 180* apart but they are both made the same so when you mount them the driver shows the triple tangs centered so the pass side shows it spun 180*. They don't advance/retard nearly that far, maybe 20*+-.

Tomorrow front cover going on, coolant reservoir, PS pump, harmonic balancer, and fan clutch as well as pulleys and belt will be put on. My dad is going to alumi-weld up the radiator and we shall pray it works. Then my OTC compressor tool comes Wednesday and at that point will install the rockers and button the rest up. As of now looks like start-up will be Wednesday or Thursday.

Also Ford makes a little nifty chain wedge tool to change the phasers out later if you can’t swing them at the time you need to get in the cover. Normally I’d be the guy changing everything to new chains and phasers included but money is tighter than usual for me right now so I just replaced what actually failed plus the pump as extra. You can always do phasers at a later time. Chains are supposed to last the lifetime of the engine so I’m not too concerned about them, mine hold nice and tight once the grenade pins were pulled under just spring pressure.

Right and it's usually one phaser that goes out and I'm the guy that just puts in what it needs at the time. My chains were good at over 200k miles and I never heard of one breaking. Many people think they stretch but they might wear a bit but that hard metal is NOT going to stretch. The only chains that wear out are the ones that were abused by running way low on oil etc. No new chains for me next time either.

What’s with the crank pulley? I lined it up with the key way pushed hard as possible and have been bashing it with a sledge hammer after failed attempts to seat and it will not seat over the crank. It just sits on the end of the shaft and doesn’t go in...I had to put the puller back on to get it back off. Piece of garbage.

Got it in there, I just sanded the living hell out of the inside hole to make it work.

They have to line up perfectly with the key and be exactly 90* to the crank nub/nose. WD 40 won't hurt anything either. You can also take a drill with a little grinding wheel on it and go around a few times in the front part to get it started. I just put the bolt in mine and hit it with the impact.

You need a harmonic balancer installer tool. I did this job on a 2007 and didn't need it, but I got lucky.

Timing Cover on and fastened, PS pump installed, fan pulley and crank pulley installed, serpentine belt installed. It’s coming back together fast now. Now I wait so my dad has space to fix radiator.

Radiator is fixed, I can’t believe they even make them that light duty, one stone chip and game over.

I started to fill the radiator and it came down that hose into the oil. Drained out the pan and ran a few quarts of new oil through it with the plug out sending it all into the drain pan. This project is making me lose my mind and it needs to end. Making more and more stupid mistakes every day on it. Still several days until the gay special tool comes.

Aluminum fix stuff didn’t work overnight but this did. Sealed her right up. Almost forgot about this Highside Chemicals stuff, it’ll seal anything on the planet it seems. Heat cured so you must use a heat gun or a torch.
