Driving home tonight with my wife and 6 month old and my Expedition dies while going down the highway at 55 mph. Felt an odd clunk feeling then a warning light message came on a wrench and said See Manual. Didn't hear anything clunk just felt it. I pull over and turn the car off. Go to restart it and after 2 attempts it starts but struggles. Got home okay but a bit concerned. Car doesn't even have 17k miles yet.. any idea guys? And with my luck being what it is our local Ford Dealer just went under... so there's that too..

Did you recently fill up at a gas station you have never been to before? I have seen instances where you unknowingly fill up with bad gas, hit the road, only to be stranded miles down the road. Good luck either way!

It's a gas station I frequent but I'm gonna stop and ask them about it tomorrow.

Glad that you got a re-start. There are some redundant systems that allow a "limp mode" in many engines today but it doesn't sound like you are running in that mode so that's a good thing. Good luck and please post what the issue was.

Same issue on my 16 platinum el. They pulled a code for the electronic throttle body. I too had the wrench light come that said see manual. Pulled over with it in limp mode, turned it off, started back up. Easy fix at the dealer which took all of 30 minutes to fix. I had 14,000 miles on it

Got the code today. Seems like bad gas. Gonna stop at the station tomorrow, forgot today and let them know.

Wow Alaska, that's far. I have distant relatives in Fairbanks. Do you think that the thud could have been anything from the road? I.e. a rock, a big stick, a moose.... (Alaska, right?) Did you look under the body and see if there was any kind of dents or damage on the driveshaft, axles, transmission, etc.? Of course, it could just be some bad gas. Just trying to see if there are any other factors.

Not implying either you or the source is incorrect, I'd like to know how "bad" gasoline can cause such an increase in pressure that a code is issued. If the gasoline is thicker you would have an increase but aged gas, I doubt it. Mixed with water, runs like crap but I doubt the viscosity change is enough for a code.

That code is usually used on the diesel side of things. Fuel purity is paramount to a diesel running correctly. The fuel filters are designed to catch the impurities so that the injection pump isn't destroyed due to extremely close tolerances.

So one thing to check is if diesel is in the tank, it is higher viscosity than gasoline by a little. And the fuel filter should be changed with a name branded filter.

If I remember correctly there isn't a test port on the fuel rail so you would need to add one temporarily to take a pressure reading. Read the pressure and see how high it is.

I appreciate all the information! It's running great now after I added some HEAT to the tank.. so I have been in contact with the dealer and they said to try that and if my next fill up it has issue to let them know. They aren't opposed to shipping it down there if needed.

Zack, How far away from the dealership are you?
