I took mine to the car wash and blasted all the joints to break up anything in there. It seems to have fixed it for now. I’m going to follow the advice in that video. That seems very similar to my issue so hopefully it’ll help.

I never could figure out the purpose of a leaky sun roof.
While we rarely open the sun roof on either our Explorer or Expedition, we do keep the sunshade open in the spring, fall, and winter as it helps brighten things up inside our all black vehicles. In the summer time, sun shade stays closed as the ambient light does not help when you are trying to keep the interior cool during the summer heat and oppressive humidity common to the Texas gulf coast.

You can grease them and buy a little time, but they will go completely sooner rather than later. It's just a shit design.

I had the same problem on the passenger side; the running board would only fully retract about 1 in 4 tries. Light upward pressure with my foot also worked.

Cleaning and lubing fixed that perfectly but now it shudders on the way down and usually stops in the middle and retracts back up. Applying any downward pressure also causes it to immediately retract.

Any ideas?

I think I will try it in the winter, I never had one before this year.

Got tired of cleaning and just replaced the motors Last year At 160k miles. Not a big job if you are fairly mechanical.

I'd like to install the power running boards on my 07, with something rigged up to drop them when any door is opened. But the junkyards want a pile of $ for them, plus another half pile of $ for the XL length. :(

To OP,

I don't have collapsible running boards but I found a video on YouTube that may help your dilemma. The video is from FordTechMakuloco.
