New here...
I have a 2003 EB and there is a short somewhere causing the back up lights to come on while going down the road. The come on like they are supposed to when placed in reverse but they flicker going down the road. I have checked fuses, relays, etc. I replaced the sensor on transmissison and cleaned the plug/contacts. I pulled both tailight housings and searched for any wiring issues. As a temporary "fix" I put a jumper wire in the fuse location with a switch so the back up lights are actually disconected unless i hit the switch. Keeps them from coming on while going down the road. The only problem is the trailer plug/lights are run from the same fuse.

i'm guessing there could be a skinned wire anywhere causing this????

Anyone ever had this or heard of this issue- or am i just that damn lucky?

I don't know anything else to check. Any suggestions????

could be a short in one of the connectors in the circuit Have attached the prints for your expy Could also be a problem with the trailer tow relay or even the 7 pin connector

Doubt it would be a short seeing that it would have to be a short to another hot wire. I would suspect the digital range switch or the relay is acting up. If you have a dvm or test light it would be easy to check.

Thanks for the replies! I haven't had a chance to check it out but plan to just replace the relay. Since it is somewhat intermittent I think it must have been "working" when i checked it initially. TRS has been replaced so i know that is good.

I will check it this weekend and post the results. thanks again for the replies!

Does anyone know where the relay is? It isn't near the other relays at the fuse box in the passenger floorboard. The manual stated location #303 (or maybe #301, I can't remember) but there is no relay with that location number in the passenger floorboard. The truck doesn't have a fuse/relay box on the fender wall like my 97 expy does.

Copied from the owners manual

R301 Trailer tow
back-up lamp
relay
Trailer tow 7–wire connector
(back-up lamps)

Note: Relays R301–R305 are not serviceable components; see your
dealer or a qualified technician for assistance.

it is on the fuse box but it is on the circuit board and can not be replaced like other relays However it is possible to replace or repair
