I have rust issues on the bottoms of my doors so I have been searching for replacements, anyone who is familiar with norther climates and salt knows that rust free anything is hard to come by. The cost to have some shipped from the south would be ridiculous so I have been searching local CL for people parting them out. I found a guy last week and picked up the drivers front and passengers rear with just a very small amount of rust on the drivers. Then today I found a drivers rear door with no rust at all- it came off an EB so I scored all the mouldings as well. I paid only $120 for the door as well as all the mouldings so I thing that was a great score. I started to fix the rust on the one drivers front I got last week. Grinded it down, cleaned it, and did the POR-15 treatement
Here is the rust free drivers rear door as well as all the mouldings

Here is the worst one after i grinded down the flakes. In the POR process there is an acid (Marine cleaner), when you spray that on you can see it eating away all the crud.

Then I put a coat of the POR paint on it, this will encapsulate the rust and stop it. I will finish this up with another coat and then a small amount of bondo so it looks cleaner then prime and paint

Nice work! I just spent a few weeks trying to find one in the western ny area. They all had horrible rusting on the 4 door bottoms, tailgate edges and rocker panels.

I finally found one from AZ that had only been in the area for a couple years. There is no body rust right now with the exception of a couple tiny areas on the driver door. These are less than dime sized spots on the inside bottom most part of the door.

I'm planning to sand them down before winter and was debating how to treat. I thought I would just clean it up with the sand paper, clean it well and then put some new paint on it. Then I was thinking I would use some rubber undercoating on all 4 door bottoms as well as the tailgate to prevent future issues. Any thoughts on the rubber coating as preventive measure?

I took a wire wheel to the one spot that was on the bottom of the new drivers door I got and had bought the "starter kit" POR-15 from Eastwood. I did the prep as instructed, first a degreaser, then an acid that eats away all the bad stuff then a coat of POR-15 black paint. I am going to even it all out with a small skim coat of body filler, sand and seal. I will continue to updat with pics
