Should my 2001 have a indicator light come on on the dash when the cruise is turned on? My cruise doesn't work and I have checked the fuses and changed the sensor on the master cylinder. My thought is the problem is in the steering wheel because when I check voltage at the cruise module I don't see 12 volts when I hit the on button. Thoughts anyone?

Wiring diagram for cruise and cluster. Be careful around the airbag or you will need to change your pants if it doesn't kill you.

the cruise cable is attached very firmly to the throttle body,
there should be no play
chances are your throttle cable is also warn
check that

My 2000 lights up when the cruise is flicked on. Like stamp said, read up on how to not set off air bag, and test steering wheel switches. We'd like you back with a progress report!

I did the button diagnostic and the only time the indicator light came on was when I pressed the off button at the beginning of the test. That indicates to me the problem is in the steering wheel or column

You have to be very careful testing the control switches if you probe the connectors. If you look at the first diagram the resistances are indicated for each cruise setting.

Warning: If you apply power from a multimeter to the airbag by mistake - BANG. Bodily injury or death will result if your in the way. At a minimum you'll crap your pants.

If you do this test make sure you take readings on the right circuit.

I remove the airbag then probe. Carry it facing away from you.

Check the sensor on the master cylinder, even if it had been replaced by that recall. My cruise wouldn’t work, then after replacing my pads it started working for awhile, the out again after a month. I troubleshot it to that sensor being gummed up and collapsing the calipers halfassed cleaned that up for a minute. You maybe able to just clean it, but if it hasn’t been replaced, REPLACE it now or at least park it away from your garage and house. It should be under a recall if it hadn’t, even still I believe.

I was able to check the cruise switch functionality at the speed control connector under the hood. Excellent advice on the air bag.
