Came here to the forum just for this issue. Thanks @Meeker for the pics and write up. Thankful to have to avoid messing with dealer.

The clips to remove this panel were a little stubborn for me. But it eventually came off without a problem.

Wish I had a rivet gun to secure the “wings” of the underside there, where the white clips are shown in the pic under step 7. Mine didn’t have those white clips, might use zip ties in case the expoxy fails and I don’t end up with hot coffee everywhere!

edit: decided to go with zip ties for some peace of mind.

Guys... I need you help! I got the console out and unplugged all plugs but one. I could not figure out for the life of me how to unplug the plug that clips in the gear selector. How the heck do you get this plug off?

This video is for an F150, but fundamentally the same center console as the 2018+ Expy.

I watched that video but the truck has a gear shifter in the console....not a dial like our Expeditions. What I cannot figure out to do is unplug the plug that goes into the gear shifter dial. I just couldn't figure it out. Any help out there how to unplug this?

Do you have a picture of it? Nearly all connectors have some sort of a tab you need to either press with your finger/thumb or lift with a screw driver. There's a few connectors out there that have levers on them, but usually those are reserved for large bulkhead connectors.

This one is one of the ones that has a lever. It's the lighter gray thing that wraps around 3 sides. It's stiff at first - you pull up on the part that has the "grip" lines if I remember right. The lever actually pries the connector apart (and pulls it together when you're reconnecting it). I don't have a picture that shows it however...

Same thing happened to my vehicle and the PremiumCARE warranty didn’t cover it. Dealer said 500 bucks to fix it, so will be checking out this forum to DIY it.

Not happy with this since I just bought this car, and have never heard of a car doing this!

Once you make the repair can you please come back on here and explain how you unplugged the plug that goes into the Gear Shift selector? I cannot figure out how to disconnect it. Thanks!

I was able to put back on the nylon band as a temporary fix without disconnecting the gear shifter’s electric. However, the plastic welds are broken, which is the reason why the cup holder fell through. I plan on bolting the flange of the cup holder cilinder to the flange of the cup holder base. When I do that I will have to disconnect all the electric.

Anybody know of any problems that can happen if I disconnect the gear selector and 4wd selector?

I did this repair today. The YouTube video below help me to get the center console trim piece off. I had the same issue as poster above with the disconnecting the gear selector, so I unscrewed the four bolts that hold the shifter assembly to the piece, then I was able to remove the trim piece and then unscrew the cup holder frame from the trim piece. Having the trim piece off is definitely the easiest way to put everything back together and I was also able to do the zip ties to connect the bottom/flapper piece to the cup holder “frame”.

Just fixed mine as well. I never ended up unplugging the shift selector and 2wd-4wd selector. I just unscrewed the 6 torx-head screws to pull the cup holder out similar to MondayTX (thanks for the tip).

We drilled new holes over the existing plastic welds and bolted the the flanges together with a little thread-glue to help it hold. The solution is better than the original design and will last forever. Thanks to my father in law for the idea
