2019 limited stealth 22" wheels (not the MAX)

I do alot of stop and go type city driving and Im averaging 13.5 MPG. Is this normal? My 07 gas guzzling Navigator V8 averaged 12.5 in same conditions...I thought these v6 Ecoboost engines were good on gas comparably....plus the window sticker says it should be about 17 MPG City.... was I lied to or is something wrong with the engine possibly? What do you folk average in the city?

I don’t even get that low when towing my boat. I average about 17 city and combined about 18.9. I’ve got 6500 miles on my ‘22.

Where I live there are a lot of lights and hills so I am getting about the same you are. I have noticed on relatively flat highway terrain I am able to get 23-24 mpg. With towing it's absolutely terrible around where I live; again, better with flat terrain. Really it depends on your style of driving, environment and weather. Try the ECO mode and see if there are any differences. I do see a small increase in mpg when I do but I prefer the responsiveness of Normal or Sport. You numbers seem normal to me.

Yes, it’s terrible in the city (the ‘city’ rating is not really city that people experience in the real world. Just use it as a relative comparison to other vehicles). A couple of bursts of acceleration in this vehicle can wipe out any gains you might have.

I don’t think ECO mode helps much, if at all, except that it modifies the throttle response so that you don’t accelerate as fast for a given throttle input.

I’d find a decent stretch of highway (interstate) that’s relatively clear and flat and drive the speed limit for 20 minutes or so and see what you get. This should demonstrate if you have an engine problem or not.

Seems low, but it is a 6000 pound brick. Not quite the Prius. I'd say I get 17 as a rule running around. 22 on trips that are mostly hwy. If your gentile, flat road, keep around 65, you could see 25-26. The way I see some people accelerate from traffic lights, I wouldn't be surprised by how low some might get.

Sounds about right to me. My wife drives ours in suburban/urban driving and she believes the gas pedal is either on or off. Never travels more than 10 miles to get to work, store, kids school, etc. Engine is barely warm when she shuts it off again, and there are a lot of hills in our immediate area. She gets about 14.

Sounds about right. If your foot is constantly pushing the "go" pedal, theres no way the v6 is saving your gas. These trucks get relatively great mpg, but only on the hwy, not the way your driving it. Change you gauge to the instant fuel usage screen and keep it over your avg line.

Ecoboost is a versatile engine, it allows you to get good mog if your patient, or stout power if you want it. However, you can't have both. My 09 nav would generally avg 19 mpg on the hwy, but my 18 expy would avg 24mpg in same conditions. However, both would avg 14-15 in stop n go traffic or driving in town alot because your constantly in the boost. However, the expy would never feel as lethargic as my nav in city conditions, unless I left it in "eco" mode. I purposely on both vehicles would drive with the instant fe screen up to keep the avg up. It def can be done, my 18 was at 21mpg avg when I turned it in, but its about patience. If you dont want to do that, which most people dont because they like the feel of the ecoboost power, than you will get the mpg you're getting.

I too have a 19 Limited Stealth HD tow with the 3.73. In Los Angeles, I get 12.5-14 regularly within the city and I baby it. Open highway, 18-20 mpg with maybe gains to 21 mpg in Eco Mode. I imagine people netting better mpg have the non tow package with the taller center section gearing otherwise I don't know how people are getting 22 plus mpg on the highway? Could it be 93 octane which we can't get here in CA?

I have the Exact same Expy as u. Your post makes me feel alot better as you seem to be getting the same MPG as me. I also baby it from the stop never getting above 2k rpms as I accel from stop. I was just thinking that my engine has suttin wrong with it with me getting about 13 mpg city when the sticker says 17 on average city.

Does 93 octane really provide better MPG than 87? If so i need to ALWAYS runs 93. I just thought 93 burned cleaner, provided more power ..

I have the tow package. When we were moving to AZ, we ran a combo of 87 and 91/93. Cruise set, running 60-65, my wife following along behind me in the Penske truck. She was getting 24-26. On trips, I can get 22-24 running cruise and 75.

Some one once said the turbo gauge is the opposite of your gas mileage. As that gauge goes up in boost, your mile goes down. I've run in Eco mode. I didn't really notice much difference. In sport, with AWD engaged, the mileage absolutely goes down.

Part of it depends on your gearing. It is my understating that I f you have HD Tow with the 3.73 rear end, you will get worse mpgs than if you have the 3.31 gears.

I don’t focus too much on city versus highway, but here is what I am estimating for my driving. 13 in city and while towing, 20 on the highway. I keep a spreadsheet with my gas mileage and I average about 16.2 across all driving types. Another thing is that I don’t race from light to light, nor do I exceed more than 5 over the speed limit. I also rarely go over 65 while towing.

Updating from my previous post, I have HD tow package and drive mostly on the East Coast where it’s pretty flat with a couple of trips a year to the Midwest.

On my 2018 Limited with 87,000 miles I get 17-18.5 around town and 23.5-24.5 highway. I do a lot of highway driving.
Sound similar to our 18 Max
Average is around 18 with my wife's commuting. Running 80 on a long trip we were in the low 20s, drop to 65-70 & that jumped up into the mid-upper 20s (according to the in-dash monitor, which is a bit optimistic).

Your gas milage will vary based on how you drive.

If you're concerned because you're actively trying to drive more efficiently and you notice excessive gas usage, try a few things. First being change gas stations. Second, check tire pressure and air filter. Monitor things like RPM at speed. I have 3.73 gearing on SWB, my RPM hover around 1700 at 70MPH, headwinds, hills, etc. all factor. at slow speeds, the 10 speed does a great job at quick shifts, especially in Eco. I barely ever break 2200 RPM city driving.
if you're hitting 3k+ off the line, your fuel economy will suffer.

If something is very off, the CEL should notify you, because excessive fuel usage becomes an emission concern the vehicle usually catches, however not always. Another thing would be taking it to a dealer, explain the issue, re-set the system and have them run a live data pull while the car is in motion.
