What is the tire of choice then for all
Those who don’t like the grabbers ? Michelin LTX?

I have continued using the stock General Grabbers. Have about 12k miles now. No issues with traction even in heavy snow. Although have not obviously had a chance to test sound level with another brand tire.

Plan to ride it out till 30k miles and then switch to Michelin or Continental; which are the ones in my other German luxury vehicles.

I have over 8500 miles now on my 2023 with the stock grabbers. Some hydroplaning in very heavy rain (not unexpected based on the amount of water that was on the road) but other than that the tires have been better than expected. 304a Limited, so extra wide tires (285 45 22's) which makes them more prone to the hydroplaning. I ordered the vehicle and it was delivered less than a month after being built, so no long periods of sitting.

I do plan to refit 275/65 18s with LT 10 ply tires since most of my driving is towing a camper. I don't think any standard 22" tire would be enough of an improvement over these for that use to justify throwing them out. I will likely save them to reinstall when it is time to sell the truck, likely with about 12,000 miles on them.

Reviving an older thread, but at first I was disappointed that my 2023 limited SPP came with Grabbers. After about 2k miles, they are quiet, comfortable and seem to do the trick just fine. As others have stated, I will keep the Grabbers for a while and see what comes. There is still not a huge amount of choice in this tire size but some obvious quality replacements. Replacing these tires now is just another $1k dump after the huge vehicle purchase price.

@NevadaGeo I agree. I disliked them very much in the beginning but now it's just a meh. After running 18s in the winter for 2 years I think my issue isn't with the Grabbers but rather the wheel size. A bit of sidewall goes a long way to improve ride comfort.

I would say the Generals are ok but not great. They ride like crap but part of that is due to being a 22”, but I’d say traction and road noise have been decent. We got about 18k on them and the treadwear seems ok, but feels like one might be starting to go out of balance. My plan is to downsize to 20” wheels and a set of Michelin defenders when the time comes for tires. We live on gravel streets and have a lot of gravel roads and 22” wheels are just not good for that kind of duty. I just wish they would make a Timberline in the Max. I see a lot of Z71 Suburbans running around here.

I was surprised by the lack of choice in tire size with the 4th gens of the upper trim levels. I like a vehicle worthy of offroad travel and when I began Expy shopping, I learned the only wheel size option was 22" for what I was looking for. The Expeditions we used in mountainous geologic work in the day are now marketed as mighty road warriors (sans the Timberline). Being semi-retired, I like the road warrior aspect of the SPP HO with the 22" wheels since they were just way too cool!

I am the OP and I too have kept them. It has about 18k miles on it now. After the initial disappointment with a no-name brand tire, it has been decently good in practice. Have been to heavy snow areas many many times in them and they had good grip. Road noise is ok. Will change them when the time comes. But not planning to dump them anytime. Tread is still good and I don't see any uneven wear.

I got a new 22 model year Expedition a month back. Have put about 1200 miles in the vehicle. I just noticed that the stock tires are from an unreliable brand - General Grabber.

What are my options to get it replaced with a more premium brand like say Michelin?

Is there some shop where I can sell it for a discount ?

Will the ford dealer take it back by any chance ?
I have Michelin Defender LTX on my Expedition. For me, nothing beats this tire for the ride and longevity.
And for what it's worth, General is NOT a NO NAME tire, but rather a quality tire. Motor Trend gave them a 10, after putting them through a rigorous test.

I have had absolutely no issues with my grabbers. 30k on mine and I have the 22’s. I would definitely prefer more sidewall but on the Highway they have been good.

I have a 2022 Expedition Limited 304A with the original equipment General Grabber HTS 60 tires (285/45R22). I've had absolutely no issues with them at all and they've actually impressed me. The only issue is that they will be worn out before I reach 30,000 kms maximum on them. I will be replacing them before Winter of 2024 with the Continental TerrainContact H/T. I hope this helps others as I'm a tire guy and have researched all the options for a replacement tire.

I actually just mounted the General Grabber HTS 60 tires (285/45R22) this week on my 18.

I am a third generation customer at a 3rd generation tire shop here in town, and these were the tires he felt good about. I personally would trust any advice or input he recommends when it comes to tire options. It basically comes down to if he would use them on his car, I am fine with it too. We were originally looking for the Nitto Crosstek2 but they were tough to find without expensive freight cost so the Generals were the next option reasonably priced. Sure, he could sell me a $300-350 Mich or other highly regarded brand if he wanted to (and if he said I needed it I would happily purchase). I respect him that he is fine selling me the most expensive tire he has. I have over 110K on my exp so who knows if I will even be driving it still in 70k miles.

I like the HTS60 so far the couple days I have had them. They are good looking tires. TBD on how they hold up and do over the long haul. They are a huge improvement over the Goodyear Eagle Touring that came on it when we purchased it used.

When I got my 19 Stealth in November, it had the 22's, I immediately swapped them for some "take off" 18's from a F150. I've been in Mexico since January, all over for 8000+ miles of the worst roads, and have been super happy. The 18's came with new Goodyear Wrangler AT OEM tires, I'll be replacing them with BFG ko2 as soon as they are half worn.

I'm a Michelin guy because of the ride and longevity. The best tire I found for my Platinum is the Michelin Defender LTX/MS. The ride is really smooth for a 22" tire and the mileage range at 70,000 miles is great. I've tried many other brands on my Excursions, Expeditions and Explorers and the ride is always better using Michelin tires.

I'm on my 2nd set w/ my EL and have been happy w/ them. I ran through 2 sets of Pirelli Scorpions before this for a total of < 60k - less than I got out of 1 set of the Michelins. The Pirellis were better in the snow, but that's the only thing they had going for them. If I make it to another set of tires on this truck, it will be the Michelins again.

Don't forget, every tire is a compromise. If you get longer life, you're giving up something else, like traction. A longer wearing compound just isn't going to grip like something softer. Figure out what works best for your specific use case.

I have always liked Michelin for highway use and have used Goodrich All Terrain TA on 4x4 that were going to do a lot of off road. No complains there but I have been won over by Pirelli Scorpions for big SUVs. I have a set right now on my beater car (2004 Yukon Denali) and they have 50,000 miles on them. They still ride smooth as silk, track great, dead silent and they have worn perfectly evenly. I've only rotated them twice in that time. When the time comes to replace the factory tires on my 2023 Expedition, Pirelli will be a the top of my shopping list.

My Expedition came with Toyo Open Country H/T 20" tires - I don't see many members saying theirs came with these, are they an oddball tire for Ford to use?

As has been concluded by many on here including myself, the General Grabbers are total garbage and Ford should be ashamed for taking a flagship vehicle with this price tag and ruining the way it rides by trying to save a few dollars and putting on cheap tires. Next trade I will insist that Michelins be put on at the dealer and worked in to the deal, I will not accept delivery with these tires.
Last time I traded an Expedition, I had the dealer swap crappy Hankook tires on the new vehicle for the Michelins on my trade in. They were happy to do it as they could then sell my trade in with brand new tires, which they obviously did not recognize as low quality.

Had a blowout last week with my generals which have always been awful. Road force balancing helped the vibration I get but because the vibration was at 75-80, everywhere I went kind of said it was the best they could do and because it was over the speed limit they really couldn’t warranty anything.

I had about 40k miles and the generals were pretty worn so decided to just go with all 4 new Michelin defenders and the ride is so much better, no vibration at all, rides smoother, rides quieter, and I’m sure they’ll be much better in the snow here in the northeast. I should have just pulled the trigger earlier.
