Went to pull my ‘20 Platinum Max into the garage after we got a good downpour (probably an inch or two of rain) and felt dripping water on my right foot. Looked under the dash and water was dripping from above the gas pedal. Looked to the passenger side and saw water on the floor mat. Walked around to look closer and the floorboard under the mat is soaked. I could see where water had been coming in within the door jamb near the hinges (actually to the left of the weather stripping, inside the vehicle). Obviously I’ll be contacting the dealer about this tomorrow. I have less than 1,0000 miles on my truck and I’m worried I’ll be chasing this issue for a long time. Seems extremely odd that a brand new vehicle would have this kind of issue. Anyone else experience this?

After reading all the posts over the past 4-5 years on this forum about water leaks in new Expeditions, it is apparent that the workers at the Kentucky Truck Plant still cannot manufacture a new vehicle without water leaks.

I have no suggestions - but wish you luck with this miserable defect.

Dropped it off today to get fixed. The salesman was very apologetic and claimed it’s the first time he’s heard of this issue. He said Service was making it their top priority to address this. It’s now almost the end of the day and no word from them. I’ll report back any info I get about how (if) they fixed it.

Finally got an update this afternoon. They said they “think” it’s leaking at the windshield gasket and they’ll replace the windshield and gasket on Tuesday when their specialist is in. I don’t have much confidence this will fix the issue. I have had various other issues already in the two weeks that I’ve owned it (front camera not working, tail lights full of debris, hands free liftgate not working, and the water inside the vehicle). I’m at the point where I’m wondering if I have a lemon on my hands.

I told my salesman I planned on picking it up this afternoon because I need to tow a trailer this weekend. Got a call from my salesman a few minutes later and he told me the rear interior panels are off and it’s best if I just leave it until Tuesday. This is after he told me they checked the liftgate sensors and didn’t find any issues (apparently they removed the panels to check the sensors?). When I asked why the panels hadn’t been reinstalled if there weren’t any issues he didn’t have an answer. I said I’m coming in tomorrow and it better be reassembled by then. I’m fed up with having to deal with these issues and just want to be able to enjoy my truck!

Over the years, I have been through two “lemon law” manufacturer repurchases in my state for defective new vehicles that I bought.

If I were you, I would research the law in your state to see if you quality - or when you would qualify. I would not say anything to the dealer.

Many states base the definition of a lemon on the number of defects repaired, or the length of time out-of-service for repairs, or more than one attempt to repair a safety system (such as the brakes). Each state is different.

Good luck.

No excuse for that many defects in ANY new vehicle today - especially an expensive, high-end model.

PS - Their “specialist” is probably a mobile glass company person.

Yes, I can’t say anything for 4th gen Expeditions, but windshield water leaks are a known problem for 1st and 2nd gen.
I had it happen on my new 2000 20 yrs ago.
The dealer does usually use a 3rd party repair company like “Water Doctor”

after my fix and a new gem module as it was the drivers side, it never leaked again

this appears to be a systemic issue with Fords. I've owned 2 fords that leaked like a submarine with a screen door.
an F150 that leaked at the rear window, and a Mustang that leaked behind the glove box.

When the windshield is replaced I would want to be there watching. Had one done to a nice Camry wagon and 2 years later noticed rust at the leading edge of the roof. The idiot installer had cut into the metal with his knife when removing the gasket. They replaced the windshield yet the car had rust cancer that ultimately made it junk.

Ugh, they did it yesterday and I wasn’t there to watch. They had to keep it another day to install the new tail lights and calibrate the new front camera (despite setting the expectation that it would all be done in a day). Service and communication have been pretty horrible.

Do you have the vehicle back now?

Any rain to see if the water leak is repaired?

I have it for now until I take it back for the fourth time for additional repairs (non-leaks, LONG STORY). It hasn't really rained since the window was re-sealed so I can't say for sure if it's been fixed.

Theres a bulletin out on this. Needs an elbow on the AC drain.

I had seen that bulletin, but I believe that was for prior model years (hopefully if I remember correctly).

Bulletin says 2018's built on or after 8-31-2018. Hopefully you have it fixed!
