Well I went to the Junkyard the other day and started walking through and I think I have the start of the Gotts-Baker mod...I took the top off a 2000 Jeep Cherokee air filter box and left the intake hose attached. I also took a couple extra intake hoses off a Ford 5.8 which were longer...looking under the Expo, the top of the Jeep air box will fit behind the installed grills I put in last week..its gonna work with a little work as I don't want and visible holes to the front and the soft intake hose will be ply able enough to go up the wheel well and into the fender area bringing fresh air up top...will keep you update and pics when done. :superhack:

wont this mod make the part where the air comes in lower? or does it not matter since the truck sits high already?

it dose. but that dosent matter as much. only reason you have to worry is if your doing any water crossings. then you could easily suck in water.

Berg, if you follow the hole in the fender down, that's where your getting the minimal amount of air flow from now...at least by looking under mine and seeing how Ford has it laid out. Yes, water would always be an issue but with a few small drain holes at the bottom and being cautious...I feel the end result will be worth the work...and hopefully a little more MPG....I have this other little brain fart going with this mod....that is this mod will work great going down the road...but when your at idle....if you could place a small electric fan (kinda like a computer has to cool, but more powerful) to suck air in at idle....I think I am getting to crazy with this....thoughts Gents?
