Hi everyone,

Okay, here's my problem, I know nothing about cars and my mom just gave me her 1991 Ford Expedition XLT, 4wd. She didn't take care of it when she had it and now I'm stuck with a bunch of problems that I have no clue if they are an easy fix or not. So, here are the problems that I need help with:

1) Interior light go on and off as they please even while driving

2) The car acts possessed and even though the doors may be locked while driving, the car still makes the locking sound over and over,

3) When i barely idle going through my apartment complex (over the speed bumps), the car has a grinding sound when i lightly push the accelerator to finish going over the speed bumps

4)The car makes a weird beep that last only about 2 seconds as if its telling you to buckle or something

5) the door lock buttons don't work and I have to shut the vehicle off in order to unlock the car with the fob and then again i have to push the unlock button on the fob several times for the car to unlock

6) When all doors are closed (I now double check all the time), the car still says door ajar on the dash and most times the lights stay on because of it

7) when going uphill, the car stalls and I have to mess with the accelerator at the top of the hill in order to try getting the car to shift (which I know that's a tranny problem but is it an easy fix?)

8) When i turn the car makes a weird sound like its my power steering but it have plenty of power steering fluid in it, so do I need a new pump possibly?

So far I think that is all of the problems that I have come across and a coulpe of the problems such as the interior lights was happening before my mom gave the car to me. Can anyone help me Im desperate for some education on this lemon lol....

Thanks everyone that can help

One thing to check is if you get wet floors in the truck after a heavy rain or while running water from a hose over the windshield. If you do get water in the drivers side footwell, your windshield is leaking, and will need to be resealed. This often drips down onto the GEM module and fusebox, causing electrical issues.

Check the transmission fluid level, if it is low, it could be the cause of the stalling/lack of downshifting.

As for the last one, it does sound like you will need to do a power steering pump. Does the fluid smell burnt?

ok well for starters the expedition was not made until 1997 and what I would recommend doing is taking it to an oil can henrys and let them do everything I mean everything! its about $300 but it will be the best $300 you will ever spend and don't go to jiffy lube because I don't like them my friends that go there have me change their oil after one of the guys there messes it up... then take the truck to have codes read at autoparts store and they will be able to help you with codes and we can help from there!

The Ford Explorer was introduced in 1990 per Wikipedia, so maybe you have that vehicle?

Found it on the internet, so it must be true. Bonjour.....
