How capable would you consider your 4x4 Expedition?

I'm talking 2007-2017 interior it shares the Super Duty front dashboard and headliner and seats it's all the same other than a Super Duty stamp in the glovebox and a non column shifter. You're barking up the wrong tree about the 6 cyl engine... I'm not a fan either Ford should be investing in making their V8s fuel efficient because they can't be beat on longevity. There are a lot of guys with half a million miles on their 6.2 V8s and Modular V8s you can't beat that with a small turbocharged engine it's beyond its realm of limitations, at least on this planet. The best thing for the environment is what car makers hate: vehicles that last a long time that don't have to be replaced by expending energy to create new ones. One 20 year old expy with a V8 that lasts has less environmental impact than the three small turbo engines it takes to equal the life of one large displacement engine. Yep the tree huggers keep buying those brand new priuses every year that harm the environment more than a 8100 Vortec chevy truck.

There may be something to your theory. The Expedition and Lincoln Town Car, were on a top 10 list of long lasting vehicles. The V8 Town Car was discontinued for the V6 MKS(?). The Expedition is now a Aluminum body V6, with no V8 option.

I think the Town Car replacement is supposed to be that weird PT cruiser looking thing....the Lincoln MKT.

Dunno, really... I was on a 48 state trip, running behind schedule due to technical issues with the rental POS, and looking for a shortcut to cross off Kentucky....

Was running a downloaded hiend Android maps app called "Offline Navigation", thats got gigs and gigs of detailed maps, waypoint capabilities, tons of options, altitudes coordinates and even info on what satellites its running off... not sure if its a general android feature or a premium samsung galaxy s thing, but in large chunks of middle of nowhere USA like northern nevada, it was actually running off GLONASS (Soviet military birds) satnav not GPS lol

That's a great way to get the "unpublished" stuff....you'll probably be on an episode of "The Americans" sometime in the future but at least you got to the cool roads...LOL....You can also find them via the Adventure riding forums. We find a lot of those roads and most would easily be passable in my truck.....Soviet Birds....I'm not doubting what your saying because I know they broadcast and anyone can pick up the signals...but it is funny as hell!

LOL...yes, it is a beast in the snow, especially if you have some tires with some meat on them. That year I took my son out, I let him drive and it was so funny cause he nearly had to stand to see over the wheel! He couldn't believe that his dad was letting him do doughnuts in the snow-covered parking lot. I put it in 4HI for him and told him to stay "in it" but not to over-rev it...we both had a blast!

After buying my new truck last Nov. I was PRAYING for deep snow this past winter. I couldn't wait to "try out" my new truck but we never got more than 2" so I still don't know how my '17 is going to do but I have removed the black lower cowling from under the front bumper because it was going to either get ripped off by a parking lot concrete bumper or deep snow would have ripped it out so I removed it and hung it in the garage.

I never tried mountains of rocks and crap but at Lexington Ohio each year at the Vintage days bike event, it always rains making for some pretty epic mud holes and considering the weight, I wouldn't try really deep mud...anything over 6" would keep me out. I've driven my old ones('99 & '03EB) through 18" deep mud/water puddles staying on the gas so water didn't get into the exhaust but nothing deeper.

Mine has been pretty damn successful over it's life. It's been driving on a ****** dirt road and through unplowed snow and mud since day one, never let me down! It's also done some off roading too but not rock crawling. I have nothing special to let it off-road other than some winter tires. Very capable to say the least!

I used to always run Michelin LTX285 by 18's or 17's depending on which Expy. Those tires would last forever unless you cut them with something. They cost nearly 300 each installed but were worth it in the long run. They were amazing in the snow....to me.

I have always loved Michelins as well. I have crappy coopers on my expy and if they weren't brand new I'd take a drill bit to them... HATE THEM. They have an aggressive tread for A/T but man the road noise... I was driving one of the F-450 dually 6.7s at work which has road noise pretty consistently with the window down but man I heard what sounded like a train go by me and it was a 150 with the loudest tires ive ever heard.... they looked new too. Very wide they came out last the body.

I have been out 4 wheeling with jeeps (7 to be exact) and was able to keep up with them. But, I have modified my 2003 with a 3" lift, 34" KO2 BFGoodrich all terrain tires, lowered my gears to 4:56 and fully locked.

Yes, please tell us more about your regearing and lockers. I've been wanting to re-gear and get a locker for the back but the cost is holding me back at the moment. I was thinking of going with 4.11 gears but when I read the various forums many say go to the 4.56. I've got 3.73s (open) at the moment.

They are coopers cheapo brand.... I think they are starfire SF 510 or S10 if my memory is correct. I'm sure cooper makes better quality ones under their own name. Think I might take these off and sell em and put some michelins on. I've had good luck with michy and BF Goodrich. They do have a deep tread I could also just keep this set for winter and run another set for summer not sure yet.

yes adieu they do have to. Aren't cooper adventurers their off road ones? My truck is only off road a few times per month so I generally buy more road worthy but all terrain capable ones.

Something so cheap they WOULDN'T use their main brand on it, when they normally take pride in being the ultra-affordable brand?? I'd avoid if at all humanly possible, since clearly theyve decided they DON'T take pride in that product

I ran Cooper Zeon LTZs (275 R60 20) on my 05, They had a very aggressive tread, were good in the snow but, they got louder with age. I would avoid them in the future. I am not sure about other models.

I just put those on a few months ago, haven't tested them in the snow yet, but I'm sure it'll be worth the $1200. I used to run michelin m/s on my little VW in Colorado, those tires got me everywhere! The only problem I had back then was clearance issues, can't plow through 2+ft of snow in a little GTI. Can't wait to get up to Tahoe this winter, we'll see if we had as much snow this year as the last......

The expy has been outstanding with every situation I've put it in. Run a few different tires, currently on some used 35" Toyo MT's, and even with low tread they blow me away how they stick to the road and the trail. Point it at anything and it goes up it.

Got some 37" Toyo MT's in the barn waiting on rims and/or spacers and I'm excited to tear some more shit up.

Just drove the wife and kids around in the Mesa. Lots of deep washes sand and some mud from all the rain we've been having. Buried the rear axle in a wet sandy wash. 4low pulled er right out.
