I just don't know how safe it is for me to be driving around for another week with bad ball joints and worn tie rods

NC, just a little thing to help you out. Before you tear apart the tie rod ends, do a measurement of each side to get the length from the center of the inner rod joint to the center of the outer rod joint. By getting this measurement, you can set the alignment back to essentially what it was before you did all this work and it may prevent you from having to get an alignment. Kinda like with the upper A-arms, if you match mark the washers before you tear into the truck, you can set the washers back to their proper spot and maintain your alignment.

As for still driving the truck, unless you are getting a lot of loose feeling in the truck and able to turn the steering wheel without the truck responding, all should be good.

Congrats! Ill be doing this soon also since i finally got a job again!

I think Ford has too much over head is most of the problem! Too many Chiefs above the mechanics, so they have to charge $150hr to pay everyone. Redonkulous IMO!

Thanks for the kind responses gentlemen. I will gladly get back to all of you with the results of the products that I've ordered. Thermo, I am not feeling any more "loose" steering that what I've been used to experiencing in the past (we all know 1st gen expeditions have very loose steering), but just starting about an hour ago (before I got home) the truck is now screeching every time I turn left or right.

Still OK to drive?

I wouldn't. It sounds like you might be getting to much movement in one of the joints. It might be allowing one wheel to shift or turn more than the other. I used to drive a tow truck and when a tow gets a vehicle with a broken ball joint, lets put it this way. It's not pretty.

NC, if you are getting screeching, I would stop driving the truck. Granted, when I had that happen, that turned out to be a bad hub. So, may want to give the front wheels a check to make sure the hubs are good. If you are going to be in that far, might as well do a few more bolts to replace a hub if it is bad.

OK, I guess I'll have to rent a car or something until I get all my stuff in the mail. Do you guys think this could be wheel bearings also? Or is it more than likely related to the tie-rods, control arms, or ball joints? Because either way all of that is going to be replaced as well as my right side axle shaft due to a bad CV split boot.

UPDATE: It doesn't do it when turning anymore but it's obviously still squeaking. But after backing up into my driveway I noticed a very faint grinding noise? It didn't do it while in drive, but you can hear it backing up really slowly in reverse. Any thoughts? I rather not spend $250 to rent a car when mine should be fixed in a few days. I just don't want to damage the truck anymore than it already is.

Also, just thought I'd put this out there... I can not freakin' wait to paint all my trim black! It's gonna look sick!

my 2.5 cents of input here are that U-joints and CV joints when dry squeek and could cause your noise....

Well, the squeaking is definitely the result of my worn down ball joints... but I was wondering what that very discrete grinding noise could be. I know it's nothing tranny related though; thank god.

Poor truck only has 70K miles on it, but I put it through so much abuse. :(

NC, if you want to take the truck on a short trip, what you can do is get it up to highway speed and then do an abrupt lane change (under control, but let the truck lean a little as you change lanes). Go both directions. If you hear the noise when you change lanes one way but not the other, the direction that the noise went away is the side that the wheel bearing is failing on. I've had a few fail on me and all of them showed this sort of indication. I could normally feel a slight vibration in the floorboard too when things where getting really bad.
